Spitfire Mk.Ib R6776 coded QV-H flown by Flt. Sgt. George “Grumpy” Unwin RAF Fowlmere August 1940. The Mk.Ib version was the Spitfire armed with 2 Hispano 20mm cannons. Initially this was a big success as the were mounted tilted on their side and seized when exposed to hight G-forces. This was the reason why No 19 squadron switched back to the Mk.Ia version already after a month. After some minor modifications, the Hispano 20 mm cannon however became the standard weapon on most RAF fighters.
I wish to thank the guys from Aeroplane Heaven for making this very nice model, which was the perfect canvas for my repaints. And Martin Wright, for his simple but indispensable graphic tools, as without his dtx1 bitmap manipulator these textures simply wouldn't be there.
Enjoy,
