100 Years of Naval Aviation May 8th 1911-2011

Purely a request.

In commemoration of this Huge Milestone. Maybe the Flightsim community would also be willing to support this event with the release of some Navy specific projects covering this amazing span of time. Planes, Ships, Re-paints, Naval Air Stations, Etc. Just a request, but think of all the possibilities. There are many squadrons doing special paint jobs on their aircraft for this this year. Many aircraft that are very well represented in FSX already (Dino's T-45, VRS F-18E, Alphasims H-60 for Sierra repaints, plus many more).:salute:

Yeah, sure. Leave everything else aside, do night shifts and model every single aircraft that has ever been used in naval aviation, every piece of soil that has ever been dedicated to naval air stations...

First, Let me just say that it was a request for Naval subjects, NOT every single piece of equipment ever used. Thank You for trying to turn this in to a freak thing. But since you felt strong enough to try and turn it into that, here is my reply. I have been serving in Naval Aviation for 20 yrs now and have love every minute of it. The importance of Naval Aviation on the general aviation field has been immense. So I did not see the harm in requesting that a little light be thrown on this subject. Next time, please reply constructively or not at all.

ATC(AW/SW) Jeffrey W Schaefer, USN

Navychief8, thanks for the reminder of the upcoming birthday. Do you know if there will be any planned special events in Pensacola to honor this milestone? I usually make my annual pilgrimage to the Museum of Naval Aviation in June and wouldn't want to miss out on anything.

There seems to be all kinds of celebrations planned all throughout next year. On Feb. 12th, in San Diego, the Navy will be hosting a 150 plane flyover, the largest since WWII. A Curtiss Pusher replica and JN-4H Jenny will be participating. At North Island Naval Air Station, there is expected to be roughly 60 aircraft on static display to the public at this time (not the same aircraft as taking part in the flyover).

Here is a list of events scheduled as of right now, which will be part of the year-long program:

There are many modern Naval aircraft that have been repainted in the markings of retro Naval schemes, a listing of which can be found here:

100 years of NA. Amazing. I was part of Naval Aviation for 40 years. 20 years of active duty, retired in 1986 as an ATC. Than 20 years as a P-3 Avionics Tech Rep with NATEC (originally NAESU). I spent my civilian years at NAS Brunswick, Maine. Sadly, NASB is no more.
I have many historical and current planes, but would like to see more. Yeah, to answer that scrooge, I could never have enough of Naval Aviation simulations from all countries.

Thanks for starting this thread navyshief8:salute:

Thanks for the pics Bomber, who would have thought that the WW2 tri color scheme would look so good on a helicopter! Very cool!

hahaha - you might have to excuse bjoern...at 24 he must be one of the youngest 'curmudgeons' I ever encountered...

I agree about the early warbird paints looking quite good on the newer equipment.

I live in San Diego also so I am looking forward to the Naval Aviation Centennial celebrations in earnest....

Congratulations on 100 Years of being the Sharp Edge! I know my home (Australia) owes a great deal to the good people who fly off those tiny decks in the middle of the ocean! :salute:

Congratulations for 100 amazing years. Don't forget that the Coast Guard is a part of that Naval Aviation history. Also, Patuxent River Naval Air Station upcoming 2011 airshow will be highlighting the 100 years of Naval Aviation.

Yea...Baby!

Thanks for this request navychief. Retired US Navy here...S-3A Tactical Coordinator! (Who's working on an FSX native S-3? I'll pitch in!)

20 years in the Navy here and had the good fortune to serve on a carrier and at NAS Pensacola amongst my many tours.

Happy Birthday Naval Aviation from an ol' black shoe...

Willy McCoy, ENC(SW) Ret.

PS, I'm always up for some Navy aircraft for FS myself. I do love to do carrier landings and visit the Chief's Mess for coffee and donuts...

LOL! Actually there are some of us who have spent many late nights building 100+ buildings of an airbase or 60+ naval vessels. Look up Virtual Navy in the library.

I have Ford Island about 30% done... should be able to make the push to have it done. I am also realllllly interested in doing a North Island 1940 scenery!! Ford Island and North Island would share the hangars easy!

I asked Vertigo for a B-25B and got my wish... maybe time to throw another penny into the well for a TBD. :icon_lol:

Ok, this thread got me thinking, and I was sitting around bored tonight, so I got to messing around. These are not to take away from the real reason behind this thread or what the navy is doing with their celebration. I just wanted to see what the Razbam Corsair would look like in WW2 colors.

Not bad, but I think she looks better in her normal paint schemes.

I just had to do this one, how about a tribute to VF-27!

Crashaz: Look for the type BM landplane/seaplane hangar on Flightsim dot com. Done with native FSX textures.

That SH-60 in blue, blue, and white is really great looking. They should go back to that for all the carrier planes. That would be cool.

Thanks Chief, I will hoist one for you, too! Ec121-Ea3b aircrewed, electronic tech Hawaii, Midway Island, Atsugi Japan. Loved it.

Well, excuse the sarcasm in my previous reply, but I'm a tad allergic to people requesting things, even if the reason might be important.
Most of the time I just swallow down the anger, but other times...

There's already a billion "naval" add-ons for FSX by the way, so requesting more seemed kind of...greedy to me.

hahaha - you might have to excuse bjoern...at 24 he must be one of the youngest 'curmudgeons' I ever encountered...

Needed to look that term up. And I kind of like it, even if I'm not like that all the time. Only when someone makes requests....

See above.
