That's like half a day...and since I consider each day to be a new life...that's half a life!
Around 2:30, maybe closer to 3 this afternoon...poot...internet and phone went out (not that I missed the phone at all...would not mind having it unhooked permanently). I figured that Time Warner was doing some updates or that the idiot township crews had dug into a cable again (last year they ripped out about 6 feet of gas line and causes a real mess). So, I patiently waited for it to come back on. And waited and waited. After 3 hours I figured I better call customer service and let them know that I had no internet or phone. The gal who took my tech call was very sweet, ran a bunch of diagnostics...nada. No signal to or from my modem. So she scheduled a tech to come to the house sometime between 10 am and December 21, 2012...leaving themselves a nice big window to ensure that they are on time.
Well, I spent my time without internet just like every other net addict does...biting my nails, trying to get Firefox to magically connect to the internet by maniacally clicking the refresh button. None of that worked. So I cleaned my office, listened to some music, created a sound pack, created a repaint template for Grep Pepper's Grumman Albatross, did a little flying, helped my wife do a little Christmas decorating...then hit the refresh button a few more times JUST IN CASE.
A little bit ago, I figured it was time to move my printer stand out of the way, untangle all the wire and cables and have them nice and neat for when the tech comes to fix my internet. Rehung my surge protectors in a better location. Rerouted all my cable and wires. Used some zip ties to bundle up the really long wires (not power cables...never bundle up power cables in use....causes them to build up heat and can cause a fire). Had everything done and looking nice....went to place the cable wire back along the base board...and somehow ended up with connectors at both ends?!?!?!?!? What the heck. The cable wire that comes in from the outside is not long enough to reach the corner where my modem is...so a second run of cable was added using the little double ended junction thingie. The cable end on the wire that comes in from out side...had come loose from the wire...probably due to it sitting on top of the heat register and having two ferrets wrestling around on it every night. I shoved the wire back into the cable end, rebooted my model...everything is working hunkidorie. I have the cable end held in place with some electrical tape.
Did I cancel the tech visist...heck no. Need a new end put on my cable. I am sure this will be his easiest tech call all month.
