1931 Davis D-1-W gets new skin

I love Steven Myer's Davis D-1-W...such a beautiful plane. That parisol wing and classic lines really make this plane a real looker. I have regauged the 2D and VC panels with vintage gauges (using the stock Lockheed Vega gauges), tweaked the fuel and payloads to reflect real world specs, and pulled the plane into the paint shop. The first skin is done.....and it cost me a small fortune since I shipped a good number of parts off to be brass plated and polished. I am working on a new prop blur for the plane now...I stole the prop blur from Lionheart's Aeronca LC...need to tweak the alpha channel to get it to work properly one the Davis.

Once I get the prop blur dialed in, make some final adjustments to the fabric work on the wings and fuselage...I will package this paint up, along with the tweaks to the panel config, and get it uploaded to flightsim.com.

Looks great OBIO. IIRC, BananaBob did a propblur for the Davis, I have it on CD, will look for it. I need to get that back in FS9, had it in GW3 before the lightning last July. Fine airplane.

Ed, the Spirit of St. Louis has a more proper sound file for the Davis, use it or alias to it. Default for the Davis is the old FS2002 Camel sound.

Of course, our guru here could take the Spirit sound, which is the correct engine for the Davis, and tweak it. :applause:

Re-installed it and made a new prop spin. Attached below.

Forgot just how pleasurable this airplane is to fly. The treat is in the skin and Steve did a bang-up good job of that, great texturing. I wanted something snazzy to fit my type-A persona, so I put some chrome hubs on it. I wish Steve had a texture for the tires, but I could find none.

If you want some chrome hubs replace the chrome in the textures with the chrome in the sip below.

Caz

Edit found the tires looking at my own attachment, sometimes I am so sharp! :jump: Will darken them up some for my taste and ve back at ya.

Thanks for the prop blur...haven't tried it yet, but I know it's better than what I was hacking together.

The bottom right hand corner of Main_16.bmp, that gray swirly area, that is the mapping for the tires.

Yeah, found it OBIO, you have an email in loop.

You may want to refine the sound. As said, I subbed the Spirit of St. Louis sound in lieu of the default camel sound.

Caz, Ed

I will send you gents a sound pack that I have done up for the Davis...give it some testing, let me know what you think...feel free to be honest....feed back will help me get it dialed in and fine tuned. Will be a bit later this evening....doing laundry, have to do some snow shoveling.....currently cleaning my office/sim room. The dust has gotten so deep that I can only see the upper half of my monitor LOL!

Thanks OBIO,

Ed, I noticed none had spinner, some had cowlings, some just props.

OBIO, actually, the Vega engine is more suitable to the 145 hp Warner Scarab radial the D-1-W wound up with in the final editions.

I may have to work up a Paint Kit for this beauty. OBIO, send me the UV maps in my email if you please. :medals:

Caz

Will send you the UV maps in just a few moments.....one thing you will discover is that there are parts of the plane that share map texturing with other parts...and not in a predictable way. Some of the landing gear struts take texture from up in the cockpit surround area...other parts of the landing gear from the nose cone/spinner area. Very odd.

Will also send the sound pack....I had to break it down into two zips.

Caz,
Installed your Prop blur and Chrome wheels - nice. The tires are very pale (smile). Did a panel tweak (VegaCAB)....now I can fly about and know just how lost i REALLY am.....hahahaha. BTW; this is really a neat aircraft, flys very sweet and it is a FS2002 model.!!
