I don't like this serie. I've seen several of them in France on Planete channel and I've always been disappointed.
No historical details, comments are desperately poor with lots of inaccuracies and wrong informations. The low coast 3D anims are awfull and aircrafts just fly like in an old Super Nintendo arcade game, not as they should do.
Now, talking about this particular action, it was terrific for Japanese pilots to engage heavy bombers with the early Zeros. The two 20mm guns gave them good chances to do severe damages on a bomber but with the lack of armor plate and self-sealing tanks on their fighters, it was almost suicidal.
This B17 crew has been really lucky that the fighters had to turn back home because they were low on fuel otherwise, they would never have managed to come back home. As an exemple, Toshio Ota engaged a lone B17 in 1942 in the Solmons area and it took him more than 1 hour before he could finally shot it down!!
