Dave and Maddog coming into KEMT with two of the Grape-Ape Gliders from the first leg team flight.
Was an uneventful flight over the smog.

Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines....

on the way to KEMT... the lucky ones got to fly out... the rest of us had to drive out.

1. after the Kickoff, dropped pax (on the taxiway) and then taxied over to look at a relic of the past

OMG, no wonder Larry is feeling sick, he musta seen that paint job sitting next to him. I'm getting sick just looking at the picture.
LOL :icon_lol:

Fliger747 and I gave the Tigercat a workout from Minnesota to Ontario. Mostly uneventful leg which is always welcomed during the race!

Flying a recon leg ahead of the baton.... night and fog/rain has met us in the maritime provinces...

No kodaks, because it was dark, but it was an exciting flight into Narsarsuaq, Greenland (BGBW) in a 727-200. We took off from Kuujjuaq, Quebec (CYVP). Dangerousdave26 was flying wing in a 777. It was raining when we left, but we were soon over the clouds. The interesting part was the approach into BGBW. You can line up for final approach while over land, but it's probably not the smartest technique for this place, which is likely why I ended up doing it... Visibility was good and I picked up the runway lights about 12 miles out, and very much too high and too fast. Lucky for me the 727 has spoilers, and they solve both of those problems... At five miles out I was popping the speed brakes out for a couple seconds at a time, every ten to fifteen seconds, descending steeply while keeping one eye on the radar altimeter, one on the airspeed indicator, and the other on the runway ahead... It all worked out, for by the time I came over the numbers, the VASI lights told me I was good, and my speed was right on the money. It was a beautiful thing. Dave landed a few minutes later. All in a days work.

I thought I saw a bunny in them clouds. Sure enough, after a zoom-in and contrast adjustment I pull da wabbit outta my hat.

Northern Lights on the road from Iceland to Norway. Bit of a white-knuckle approach to Sola (ENZV). Had to fight through thunderstorms and a lot of turbulence with a 18knt crosswind on short final.

First shot is PRB, Spookster and I waiting for Dave to bring the Sea Fury in.

I got left behind in the P-38 team flight - I half-blew my engines by overuse of the WEP. :pop4:

At least I made it eventually, within the 30 minute cut-off. Here's a string of Team Outhouse Lightnings patrolling in Northern Italy.

On a special request from Moses, a shot from my flight in the kick-off event:

Glad I practiced it beforehand, because there wasn't all that much clearance over the mountains!

On the road to Muscat (OOMS). Over the Persian Gulf as day turned to night, while keeping one eye on the Iranian coast...

As the sun came up over the eastern horizon I found myself in a race with Fliger to my old crash site- kaiTak. Thankfully they've removed my burned out AS Hornet I left on the runway 4 years ago.
