Oh dear... One thing we've seen tonight, not that we needed to learn it, the 48 team is not last night's 2 team... This could go either way still... Pulling for the 2...

- Paul

Holy crap! The 48 just blew up. I guess that seals it for the 2.

- Paul

Yes....
Not to take away anything from the #2 team but in years past, the #48 team has had immortal levels of good luck. This season, they've come back down to mortal levels....

But the #2 drove & earned their way to a championship and congratulations to them! :ernae:

Hey All,

Congrats to the 2!! Congrats to Roger! Finally titles in both Nationwide and Cup from a stockcar racer not a recycled open wheeler. And a sad congrats to Dodge - best cars in cup and nobody want to run em. Unbelieveable!

I've backed Brad since day 1 since could see how smart and capable he was. The story inside this race told me alot. When he was a kid he went to races with his little briefcase with a technical book on racing that he learned so much from. He can CC his own car from inside the car. Smart - Kulwicki smart. The kind of smart I have always believed should dominate racing.

Jimmie well he and Chad have work to do. He has always had krap cars at homestead now it really cost him. That and last week at Phoenix another krap car. He and Chad should know better but he will be back. He is still 5 time.

Good to see Roger P. win his first NASCAR title. Good stuff.

i was against brad for a long time because im a carl fan,and that stuff they had going on drug me in..i think they both saw how stupid they were being..(but i have to say Brad was the bigger man in that in the end),but i really liked what he said to dr punch in the post race interview, showed his level of maturity in my eyes....i didnt hear him once say "I did it".....was all team..and how he talked about how people told him he couldnt do it,wasnt big enough, strong enough..and he feels they were right..he needed a team behind him.....thats true...but he is also the kind of guy who will and can push the team as a true leader...

Brad has come a long way and he has really matured. He and his team worked hard for this championship, they deserve it.

As for Jimmie, his pit crew failed him. Don't know what broke in the drive train, but when you come into the pits with a sizable points lead and you end up finishing in the pits deep in the hole... well... maybe the engine was over revved?

According to Chad a tire threw up a lug nut breaking the oil line from the rear end oil cooler which in turn allowed the gears to burn up.

Congrats to the 2 team, they earned it.

Wow! I think that's a rare malfunction, guess Chad making a comeback truly was not in the cards.

Last night on the Hub, Marty Smith said Chad was wrong and that the line had worn through which is more believable. Looks as though someone did not route the line properly or left off a support bracket.

Been thinking about this one....
Since it was Penske who was building the Dodge engines, I wonder how much this factor played into not only Roger's decision to switch to Ford but also the other teams in the paddock decisions to not join the Dodge camp....

Hey All,

P I don't understand why that would be a factor. I would assume Roger would be willing to sell engines - maybe even chassis to other teams. I believe he was trying to sell the whole engine shop earlier this year. Selling engines and/or chassis is what Earnhardt Childress was doing, what Hendrick does and I've no idea about the alliances in the Ford Camp - Roush and? or Petty and? but I bet there are some. I've no real idea why so many teams would turn their backs on the brand that just won the championship - but Dodge (or the Mopar family) has always been the outcast. Something has gone on in the garage or boardroom.

EasyEd,
Maybe it's as simple as Roger not being a "Native NASCAR" guy in the paddock.....Also keep in mind that prior to going to Dodge, Penske had the Ford Taurus and was not one of the Dodge Intrepid teams.... :mixedsmi:

Hey All,

Penske started in the AMC Matador then chevy then pontiac then ford then dodge and now back to ford. Seems he can't figure whether his relative lack of success since he started in 1972 was due to the cars or the drivers. :icon_lol: I've no idea how well he did or did not work with other garage teams of the same brand. Irrespective if he had poured more resources into NASCAR I think he would have had more success than just his first title in 50 years.

Well,
He's had some of the best drivers in the world drive for him to include Mark Donohue, Tom Sneva, Bobby Allison, Donny Allison, Mario Andretti,....and the list goes on to his current 2013 line up....And his own IndyCars have had their fare share of successes too! :mixedsmi:

Hey All,

P I was referring to Roger in NASCAR and his lack of success. That changed with Brad - one nationwide championship in 2010 and now sprint cup in 2012 both with Brad. There is no dispute that Penske has had tremendous success in the easier form of open wheel racing. I am actually kind of surprised he had never won a title with the Allisons but it is so. You know Tom Sneva came from Spokane graduated from the same high school I did and I knew him at Libby Jr High. Always been a fan of the first to do 200mph at Indy Tom Sneva.

EasyEd,
Sorry, but I can't give all the credit to Brad but rather I see it as a perfect sum of all parts - the parts being;
-Brad Keselowski
-Paul Wolfe
-Penske built Dodge engines (Much like some of the dominant Penske built Indy chassis) - can't rule out their incredible horsepower/mileage combo...

Addendum:
And for my admittedly biased post here:

I can't help but wonder how many more championships Gordon could have had if Evernham hadn't left? That being said, Jimmie has shown himself to be more resiliant to crew chief change than Gordon.

Stewart & Zippadelli were/are good but IMHO, not on the level as Jeff/Ray, Jimmie/Chad, & perhaps Brad/Paul.....
