Diving back into the 2024 sim for some projects. As with 2020 it's a lot different than the FSX-P3 dee stuff. The dev mode does give you a lot of info but it's still. a PITA (not the animal rights group) and a lot of control has been taken out of the DEV hands. Some think it is better than 2020 with more data points. I have transferred a 2020 project start into 2024, maybe it's better. It's good flyer so far so I am hopeful. I have both sims ginned up, but haven't gone backwards, so maybe it's a keeper.

Hey Tom, happy to see that you are still into these sims. I do miss all the project you and I worked on together and appreciate all your great contributions to proper flying aircraft flight models.

Milton! Indeed that was in many ways a golden era of creation. I am currently doing flight dynamics for Blackbird of the 737-200 and Otter for 2024 and involved again with PMDG on their upcoming 747 series. For these new sims I finally got a new fast computer and a large widescreen monitor.

Best regards: Tom!

Above in the 2024 section I posted a shot of the Blackbird Corsair at Midway. This is a 2020 aircraft for which I did some flight dynamics upgrades. Trying it in 2024 unfortunately none of the instruments worked but it flew mostly well. However the engine was putting out maybe 600 hp and I could barely get it airborne. Not currently understanding what the issue is with the engine files but a sloppy fix added in increasing the power and thrust scalars and it is a hoot to fly. Instruments do help, but I have enough hours in this thing to mostly do OK.

I'll have to check out some other 2020 warbirds and see if they have the same issue. Possible it's some hidden default binding, found a few of those such as engine auto stop was a default switch on my throttle unit. Lower the gear and engines would quit. So far not in love with the bindings.corsair midway.jpg

Sounds like a drag issue.

Let's add to the weirdness! None of the flight instruments work if I open the cockpit hood, but work if I leave it closed?

Where are all the gauge gurus that used to be helpful when we needed it back in the FSX days? Or maybe post that anomaly on FSDeveloper?

BTW, haven't seen PSP like in this pic since Vietnam in 1968! :)

It's a 2020 scenery of Midway Island in 1943? Works fine except part of the modern runway shows through on the big Island.

I remember Jerry liked Midway for flight test as it was basically sea level with no surrounding terrain. The new update caused issues with the trim in the Corsair making it almost un flyable being far out of trim but reducing the trim effectiveness and nearly zeroing it out is a step forwards. The autopilot in the 737 is now working well, again. Moving target on shifting sands!

It appears the trim effectiveness in 2024 is much greater than in 2020 and trim values for say the above Corsair if un adjusted cause almost uncontrollable issues. Taming those down a whole bunch and adjusting the gyro precession on lifting the tail is helping a bunch. I wonder what the unknown binding that is causing opening the canopy to freeze the instruments.

Tom, I wonder Rob Barendregt is still around; he is a sim/gauge expert.

I am also trying to think of others but FSDeveloper.com might be your best source for quick ideas.

Hey Tom and Milton! Good to see you guys here. I haven't bought 2024 yet, but I probably will soon. I do miss tweaking flight models and panels.

Milton:

For now if I need the instruments I just leave the hood closes. Something strange going on as there is no binding for open-close canopy, it's done by a tool tip which must be inhibiting something. There are a large number of Easter Eggs in the quadrillion default bindings such as the one that uses the switch I use to lower gear to auto stop engines. They would be far better off with a very basic set of defaults.

Paul, not all the tools are there as yet but enough for we putzers. The gauge guys and C++ folks may have to wait a bit. If 2D popup panels are possible some of those could be useful.

Best regards: Tom

Rob Cappers sent me a Pus Moth to work on in 2024. Got it flying pretty well, not perfect but a decent first pass. Have to adjust power and drag to get the right top speed but in the ball park. As a simple aircraft it is modestly immune to the shifting sands of 2024.

As I recall, I gave him permission to convert mine to FSX or P3D years ago. Is this it?
