$232M Powerball Winner

Welp there goes their privacy now. .... It'll be just like that guy that won it in Chicago ... I recall the news showing his house, a small cape cod type with a full front porch, before and after his winning.

Before his winning it was just a simple house with a porch, after his winning, they couldn't get to the front door for all the mail that was delivered to them from people looking for a hand out. Hell even the mail man sued him claiming a back injury while delivering all that mail.

Its never a good thing to go public when you win something like this. That said, I hope it works out for him.

Now maybe he can pay the back taxes on his folks property! :kilroy:
 
Thats alot of taxes on that money. I love my country, but how does it get 75% of the winnings?

Glad he won. I hope all works out for him. May they be strong when all those people start writing him asking for his money..

Usually, lotteries give you a choice on how you want the money.

He could probably get the full 232 million, spread out over 20 years, or a lump sum payout of around half that all at once. Then, Uncle Sam swoops in and takes their share (40%?), and all of a sudden that 232 million (actually 120 million) becomes 88 million.

At least, that's my theory.

I agree with Ack Ack ... the advertised lottery payout is only for an Annuity colllection over 20/25 years. The lottery actual cash on hand at the time of your winning is usually half the advertised jackpot. How they get the total is that interest is collected on the "kitty" while they're paying it out to you over tha annuity.
 
Well I hope the young man keeps what appears to be a level head about him regarding all that money. The article made some great points about the pitfalls of becoming totally freaking rich from a lottery. The article says that he's single. He may want to stay that way for a good while. Forget the dog, cowboy hat and pick-up truck. Sheet Howdy! 88 mil is one hell of a chick magnet. I wish him well. I hope his people and his friends in that small town and impoverished county help him through the rough spots. I can think of much worse problems than having too much money all of a sudden. Life isn't all about money but like the great man said: "I've been poor at times of my life and I've been rich. I prefer being rich."
