24-hour sale on A2A Corsair

OK Rich, I had chance to give it a quick trial.

The tailhook worked as it should... although I admit I need some practice, especially at curved approaches! I can see why the hook is written into the model on this one.

I really like your idea of using a light to line up with the cat! I can attach to the cat and hold-back no problem. However, when I power up to full throttle it releases without me triggering the cat... sending me over the bows at very low airspeed and into the drink! I've tried this on two different carriers with the same result. What am I doing wrong, or should I ****?! Like I said, this was just a very quick trial.

Many thanks

Andy

Knocked up a repaint of a Corsair Mk2 of 1836NAS from HMS Victorious. Needs a bit of minor tweaking but I'll try and upload somewhere by the end of the weekend if anyone's interested.

Hopefully have it up on the Flying Stations site this weekend. Andy, it's got spec maps as they were included in the paint kit and that way you don't get weird reflections that show where the markings are for another aircraft!

Airtrooper, not sure what is happening there it does'nt happen like that for me, what keys are you using to launch ?

Peritas, do you have this problem ?

Since it seems only you 2 are using the cat launch settings I have to rely on your feedback

Skip I am interested, oddly enough I have been working on that paint but for the old AH Fs9 model that does have the correct wing tips for RN Corsairs

well I had to have a Corsair didn't I ?

but I do wonder why there are so few new paints for it to date...

Airtrooper, I have been trying to replicate your problem and the only way I can do it is with the C model , the one in your screenshot which I have not put the cat launch entries into, when run up to full throttle it will move as the brakes will not hold it and off you go straight off the end at low speed.

I have had the ones with the cat settings in on the cat with holdback engaged for over a minute at full belt with no movement the launched ok with the correct keys

Make sure you have the cat entries in all 3 models and are using shift+spacebar as the launch trigger and not just releasing the brakes.

Please let me know how you get on

Hi again Rich,

I haven't had much time to try this, but I did give it a shot (excuse the punn!) using a different Corsair on a different carrier (Ark Royal).

As you can I see I can hook up the cat just fine:

I noticed it is possible to have too much flap, which when you throttle up causes the nose to pitch over and the cat to disengage... and off you go for a swim!

However, I also tried the same with less flap, which prevented nose-over. I steadily increased throttle and at 30-40%, sure enough the cat disengaged... and off for another swim!

Very frustrating! Is anyone else getting the same? Is it just me?

Airtrooper, just spent a bit more time with the same model you are using, all previous tests done on Victorious with no problems did the same sort of thing on Ark.

I get a occasional slight tail lift on full power on the hold back, that is with no flaps and full flaps certainly no nose over on either and no holdback dissengaging.

It will launch at around 170 Kts with the throttle closed and continue flying when the throttle is opened after leaving the deck.

Have you got any other carrier programes such as Arr Cab or 3 Wire installed ?

At the moment since you are the only one giving any feedback on problems, while I suspect a few people have at least tried the cat settings none are saying anything in which case I am afraid I do'nt know what to suggest.

For me it works ok on all 3 models

I tried to catapult off the default carrier this evening with no luck. It will not engage on the catapult (CTRL-I fails). It bounces around for a few seconds, then stops trying. This is the same effect I get with basically all tail draggers.

Try shift+I that I think is the accepted key strokes not CTRL+I and thats what works for me.

What taildraggers are you using ? there are very few set up for cat launch.

Taildraggers setup for cat launch on my FSX,

AH Sea Hurricanes

AH Seafires

AH Corsairs

RF Hellcat

Wildcat/ Martlet

AS Firebrand

AS Swordfish

Mr Ito's Barracuda = prop problems

Swordfish the new one Skippy is working on though as with the AS Sworfish not practical as it launches twice as fast as its max speed

The donation ware Albacore.

Just did a cat launch with the Corsair in Airtoopers last screenies with the engine switched OFF left the deck at around 200 Kts and glided into to the sea

mfitch, as far as I can see CTRL+I is not allocated to anything

As far as I can remember the only taildragger set up for cat and trap straight out of the box is the Westland Wyvern.

All the ones listed above I added cat lanuch to and fixed some not so bright hook settings, often a straight copy paste from another model will not work well
