29Palms release Samos scenery through Aerosoft

Dimus

SOH-CM-2025
29Palms products are a must have, especially the Greek ones for me. Samos is their latest offering through Aerosoft and can be found here:

I'll be definitely getting this and will provide feedback. I was also glad to see in their FB page that they will also update Skiathos for P3D 3.x. as well as their other sceneries.

Interesting. Looking forward to your feedback including any significant performance hit.

I'm presently using George Keogh's excellent Samos freeware scenery together with Orbx Global, Vector and EU landclass. Provides for a convincing rendering of Samos. That said, I can easily see myself buying 29Palms version pending positive reviews. I was actually born in Samos so the island has a special place in my heart.

That RW9 approach in foul weather must be a white knuckle experience in real life.

For years I avoided flying the Greek Islands as the default scenery there is horrific. Global, Vector and EU landclass, while hit & miss for me in many areas, completely transforms this experience and I now find myself flying there quite often.

Very tempting, indeed - Thanks for the HU, Dimus. :)

I got it, installed in P3D 3.3.5 (I only use that sim for flying now, FSX is used for development and testing only) and just made a short hop and some slewing around. First impressions:

The rendering of the airport and the surrounding area is amazing and the FPS in P3D 3.3.5 with high settings in scenery and lighting in my system is a super smooth 30FPS (I have it locked at 30).

29Palms took advantage of the new P3D feature to be able to add specular on ground textures. So now you have aprons and runways with some shine:

On the minus side, not all the island is in photoreal, like in Skiathos. Of course Samos is a big island and that would create a huge file. The limits though are quite visible and the FTX Global compatibility patch, which claims to change the colors of the photo image to match the Global textures, did not help much:

I think that payware software should be a cut above freeware IMHO so if they take exceptions folks are going to point them out. All in all from the photos I think it looks quite good though I don't fly the Greek Isles in the sim any longer. I used to fly an A320 from Birmingham UK to Mykonos on sim charters with a VA about 6 or so years ago in FS9. That was a challenging approach, too. Got interested watching a real A320 video of that charter flight and joined their VA which is no longer around as many do bite the dust after time. Now back to California.

Hey Dimus, they just published an updated 1.01 on their site ("Photoscenery colors adjusted for default and FTX Global textures"). Maybe they reworked the palette a little more.
