6 year old loose in a ballon

FOX news has it live right now....Poor kid...If he makes it, he's my hero so lets pray for him...middle

I am really hoping one of the kids set the balloon free and the little one got scared and is hiding from his parents.

That's what I have been thinking - and hoping. My shock at the first images and story quickly turned to amazement at how stupid the CNN reporters are, and the dumb questions they kept posing - "how fast does helium deflate?" :isadizzy:

This family was somehow portrayed in some "reality" show recently. . . so I'm smelling some kind of publicity hoax.

Actually, I hope it is, instead of a six year old boy falling out of this contraption!

I'm wondering if the balloon even had the gas capacity to lift a boy very far off the ground. Sure hope he's ok.

Brian

Paper napkin calculation: 50 cubic meters. A cube about 3.7m on each side. That balloon did look kind of small for that (Hoping and praying)

EDIT: oops make that about 21 cubic meters. Uh oh. :(

That was a very small area for holding enough helium to lift that kid up. It looked like it was under 20 feet in diameter. The little compartment under it had a door, and looked so small a large dog couldnt get in there, so it was pretty small. They are saying there was another compartment that went under it but I doubt that since there was a door on this thing.

I hope it was a hoax.

The brother of the child says he was definately in it when it went up. Thats the thing that is getting me. I hope he didnt bail out if he did get in it and go airborn.

But dang, to lift 60 pounds, that must be alot of helium......

What state was this in?

Bill

First off I pray that the kid is safe. Here's some data if anyone cares to crunch the numbers.

Balloon was estimated to be 20 feet long and 5 feet high.

904 cubic feet of helium has the lifting capacity (at sea level) of 57 pounds.

Flight was around 7,000 feet in altitude near Denver Colorado.

edit: A cylinder with a radius of 10 feet with a height of 5 feet has a volume of 1571 cubic feet.
More than enough to lift the kid it sounds like.

He's o.k. according to the local news! Found hiding in a box in the attic. They better have that right or... :applause:

Confirmed at abcnews.com! Woo-hoo!

Yeah...the news said they weren't sure how he ended up in an attic in a box.

Let's see...he's six years old. Oh boy! I'm in BIG trouble! I'd better run and hide. THAT's how he ended up in the attic!

30 yrs in the future....

Something crashed in Colorado, government cover up, one alien ejected before crash, 3ft. tall, hidden from the feds by keeping him in their attic, etc. :engel016:

LOLOL.....

Yep..

Glad hes ok...

I was just looking at the 'crash site' photo on Yahoo. Dang if that doesnt look like a saucer.

:d

Nothing gets you national media exposure quicker than an alleged missing child. I'm thinking that family might be wanting a bit more than their "15 minutes of fame" from the Wife Swap TV show. ;)
