"707" tanker....down

Just saw this news blip myself, and I was stationed at NAS Point Mugu in the 90's ... Happy to hear that the aircrew are alive ...

Just saw an aerial shot of the grounded Boeing and looked for some tail markings, but didn't see anything that would indicate USAF and KC 135, but the paint looked to be the standard USAF grey color. The fuselage looked to be white, but I'm sure that's from the heat of the fire burning the paint off.

Possibilities?

1. KC 135 Stratotanker USAF
2. E6 Mercury USN
3. Contract 707-Omega

I guess the situation will clarify itself as soon as we get an official statement from the base.

Ditto. Omega has a few operational 707 tankers, and a few tanker airframes with no engines at the San Antonio, TX airport. Their hangar is just on the south side of rwy 3. I've also seen them hanging out at the top secret JSTARS build-up facility at the Melbourne, FLA airport.

Glad the crew got out. Nothing burns like a tanker.
 
wow..i had absolutly no idea there was a private tanker company...gives me hope for my fantasies.....lol..thanks for clearing me up on this yous guys....
 
Didn't realize you could still fly planes in the states with the J8TD's on them legally.. Thought the only planes left with those were the JANETs.
