892Sqn FAA repaints for JY's AI Phantom

Hi chaps..

Here's a quick set of paints for JY's RAF AI Phantom in the colours of 892Sqn FAA.. primarily to accompany the Milviz F-4J paint done by DaveQ. The AI model doesn't map particularly well for the RN paint.. the underside maps from the side and there's only one underwing map so no reg's but it works ok as long as you don't look too hard. The set will give you nose numbers 002 to 007.. Dave did 001 on the Milviz model.

Thanks Dave,

I grab em for later use as I have no fast movers installed in sim right now. John makes some great AI, but as you said he doesn't do the bottom of the fuselage on any of his models. I still like painting them though.

No Prob Joe:encouragement: I've spent lengthy, frustrating periods on JY's models trying to find an elusive area on a map before and have usually ended up asking DG to have a look in 3DMax for me whereupon he's sent me a UV map of the offending part!! I saved him the pain on this one and gave up pretty early on:banghead: They're fit for purpose anyway;)

Lovely work, Dave!
One other thing I just come across, where did you get the lovely AI Wessex from? I am missing this one for the Ark Royal live guard duty!

Hello Mate..

If the old grey stuff is working.. I think it's the one that came with Victorious given a lick of paint. A quick check confirms it. I also did a paint for Glamorgan, NAS Portland and an RN green jobbie too. I'll dig em out if you'd like:)

Great shots! Always loved the British navy Phantoms, even if the politicians killed them of all to early. I even got the BBC serie "sailor" on dvd to watch the Phantom and Buccaneer forage :) I will never forget the RAF pilot doing 5+ approaches with wave offs in a Bucc before he managed to trap it and then saying it was all pretty easy..

Not sure if the RN ever flew with jamming pods on their Phantoms though.. Did even the RAF do that?

There was an 'add-on' on one issue of this series, which showed what happened after they thought the cameras had stopped rolling.
The Boss got hold of that pilot and..... it wasn't pretty.

Buccaneers did have jamming pods, and so did the later Jaguars, but I don't believe that the Phantoms did.

Dave

Cheers fellas:encouragement: That pod has been annoying me from the word go but I've yet to fiddle with the loadouts to remove it. It's now moved to the top of my 'things to do' list:very_drunk:

The pod is easy to remove using the ACM, as well as any other ordnance in the MV Phantom. You can also add the fin top antenna in the MV Phantom, although I believe that was an RAF only thing.

Cheers mate:encouragement: I wish I could get rid of it as easy on JY's model but it is an RAF Phantom and you have to go with what you've got;)

The Royal Navy FG.1 also had the RWR pod fitted post-1976, as shown here.

Hi Dave:wavey:

Yes.. I know that site. The one page I really wanted a day or so ago has a 404 error!!:banghead: The RWR pods are notable post Jubilee stripes on the nose. Pre stripes.. little evidence. That's how I remember it. I'm awaiting a copy of Warpaint No.31 to drop on the doormat should I feel the urge to tackle the F-4J paintkit!!

Hi Dave,

that would be awesome!

Try THIS

The zip is a bit of a pigs ear but all the constituent parts should be there;)

EDIT: No instructions!! Drop these textures into your Flying Stations Wessex1 folder.. backup your current sim.cfg and use the one included.

Source for AI Phantom Model?

Great paint work and screenshots Dave. Has put me on another RN binge using the Vic and some vintage early '60s aircraft.

Question: I have most of John Young's AI - great stuff - including his Sea Vixen and Bucc, but I cannot find anywhere (Owl's Nest etc) any JY AI Phantoms. Can you post a link?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Search the Owl's Nest Military AI Reference for "FGR.2" and they will show. Download link to the FSX models: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxaia&DLID=188095

BTW, I did a couple of RAF retro paints for them: https://app.box.com/s/qszvo2ye4vl5mdm28re8

These are all FS9, but work well in FSX:

nmai_f-4j_v2_raf_traffic.zip
nmai_f-4k_rn_traffic.zip
nmai_f-4k_raf_traffic.zip
nmai_f-4m_raf_traffic.zip

They're all to be found at avsim, by Michael Pearson.
