A-20 and B-17 skip bombing

This is a setup for the TR_A20G and FDG2_B_17E DP fileS so you can skip bomb.
You will need the Bomb Pen32Win made for skip bombing.They are included
with the B-25's he and Tango did.

TR_A20G

First make sure the category=4
Next go to [GUNSTATIONS] and add this line.

The 7 is the gun station,the 5 means it's for a torpedo.

Now go to guns and add.

this is the extra bombload you are adding.

Go to [PAYLOADS]
add these lines
payload.4=%payload_name.4%
payload.5=%payload_name.5%
If you are adding payloads these have to go in order so the next line would be
payload.6=%payload_name.6%
if you wanted to add another bombload
The next thing is to put in the bombload you want.

Payload 4 has to skipbombs on the wings and 2 1000lb bombs
in the bomb bay.

this payload will release 2 torpedoes at a time.

This payload will drop the skipbombs than the 4x 500lb bombs in a glide attack.

Ship Glidebombing

This works with the A-20,B-25,Beaughter,B-17 and most of the multi-engine planes.

First thing you must do is make sure the category in the DP is set to

category=4 With this setting the planes will drop full bombloads on the target.

The Glidebombing attack is good for slow moving convoys.

In mission builder set the ships in this way.

All waypoints = do not evade

Speed=5
At higher speed the plane will divebomb.

I set the plane to attack alt 1500 and get the best results.

Thanks Al. I think that I've got it all sorted out in my mind now. In fact, I've made a seperate weapons package for my library with everything necessary for skip bombing.

I also found this old post by Pen on the subject. It may be of some help too and should explain the weapons used to simulate the delayed detenation bombs.

"Thanks Gents, wait until you've used them for a day or two, then tell me what you think of them.
I've been slowing picking away at them since TR finished the final MDL's. Work has been very busy so with these two I've been packaging them up bit by bit. The Airfiles and A/C.cfg are carry overs from the old Stock B-25 Hard Nose, the one with the nose and side pack guns as part of the payload. Those files have been a WIP for more than a year. With TR and SC taking on the new B-25's I revisited these files and fine tuned them.
On Skip Bombing: The first problem with Skip-Bombing in CFS2 is that there is only one Attack Profile for the AI's to attack moving targets with bombs. It goes like this...
Get to about 6500', get behind the target, dive at about 65*, drop bomb, pull out...
Now this just won't do. So, what attack profile best fits that of a Skip-Bombing Run? A Torpedo Attack of course.... So, you need Torpedo that looks like a Bomb.... That's the only way the AI's will perform a Torpedo Attack, if the class of weapon they have in their payload is that of a Torpedo.
Next problem, torpedoes dropped by the player at high speed and close range dive under the ship's DP....
I found that CFS2 has several Weapons Classes available that are not used, both rockets and torpedoes. I found a class of torpedo that the player could drop at greater than 200 knots and within 300 meters of a ship without it taking the plunge. Several months ago I wrote a thread about it. I then converted DB's US 500lb GP "c" into this class of weapon. This weapon is used on very few DP's and you still have the "a", 'b", "d" and "fb" 500lb bombs to use on other aircraft.
The end result is that the player can perform a skip bombing attack, drop this Torpedo-Bomb, it will display a splash and then will strike a ship. The AI's use the Torpedo Attack profile and score hits too.
Down sides: You'll have to replace the "c" bomb in other DP's.
For the player there is no delayed explosion of the weapon.
The AI's leave Torp Tracks but the time required to reach the hull is well within the limits of the delayed fuses really used by the 5th AF.
So we have a workable solution. Is it Perfect? No... It's the best I could figure out within the limits of the CFS2 engine.

Well this explains why it wasn't working for me. Dive bombing is what I was seeing.
