Thats so far true Wing Z,more info to come...multiple failers..makes sence to me..thats like a bomb going off... It did have a shotgun effect on the wing! I still think they were lucky...a hot piece of steel,like an incendiary 20mm cannon shell..hitting the fuel tanks????To horrible to picture!!......and yet a spokesman,with company propaganda states."They are more in danger driving to the airport then flying the Air Bus!!"... ..ALL ABOARD!! BE HAPPY! DO NOT WORRY! ITS OK! TRUST ME!!...Do some of you guys rememberer the instant insurance machines at air ports??..450 people lining up???? WOW!!

Yes,seen the progress of this remarkable plane from its inception to its maiden flight...Europe at its best. almost like a Huge cottage industry...all separate ,yet equal in their planing ,manufacturing ..and the miracle of coming to gether ,parts fit,it flys.Even with must have been a language challenge.I was on their list,and had been receiving information thru out...I gotta tell ya..even on TV..seeing that creation fly has to make you wonder in awe!.....Tonight I flew the thing on the Sim...not really,but was just looking at it flying...beautifull!!.Now saying all that does not excuse anything from the normal laws of aerodynamics,engineering,maintenance,pilots proficiency and all that effect safty!....I recall this feeling with the Spruce Goose!..complete AWE!!....I also thought the Hindenburg had that quality,as did the Titanic,not to mention the space shuttle....we become so desensitized,shielded from the facts that this is inherently dangerous stuff!...When you lose your fear,or call it respect,your more apt to have a problem that will spoil yer whole day!!.When yer young ya think this will not happen to me ,but to some old geezer,except the old geezer got there by respecting these things!!....Anywho wish them all success,and Happy Landings...Sorry I bloviated to much..BUT its FUN!!...Vin

And now a 747 with engine "issues"

A Qantas airline jumbo jet has been forced to return to Singapore because of an engine problem.

The Boeing 747-400 turned back shortly after take-off from Changi Airport, airline officials said.

It comes a day after a Qantas Airbus A380 was forced to make an emergency landing at the same airport after one of its engines exploded.

Qantas grounded its six-strong fleet of A380s and an investigation is under way into what caused the blowout.

The latest incident affected Sydney-bound flight QF6, which was carrying more than 400 passengers.

"Shortly after take-off the captain experienced an issue with one of its engines," a Qantas spokeswoman said.

The plane managed to land safely, she said.

No further details were immediately available.

Earlier, Qantas said the engine failure on its flagship A380 may have been caused by a design fault.

CEO Alan Joyce said it was "an engine issue" and not one of maintenance on the two-year-old plane.

Rolls-Royce, the British firm which makes the Trent 900 engine involved, said it was checking all the A380s in service.

The engine blew up over western Indonesia, sending debris falling on to the island of Batam and leaving a trail of smoke.

Passengers were put on a relief flight to Australia early on Friday.

Qantas says its A380 fleet will be grounded "for a matter of days, not weeks" as it probes anomalies discovered in Rolls Royce Trent engines similar to one that suffered an uncontained failure over Indonesia last week. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told reporters inspections of three engines discovered oil "where oil shouldn't be" as Qantas and Rolls Royce engineers bear down on the possible cause of the failure. "These are new engines on new aircraft, they shouldn't have these issues at this stage so it's given us an indication of an area for us to focus into," Joyce said. "It's too early for us to say what components or parts of the engine we think could have been the issue." Meanwhile the Australian Transportation Safety Board has residents of an Indonesian island on a high stakes scavenger hunt.

The engine came apart over the island of Batam and residents reported that debris rained over a wide area. The ATSB is hoping someone finds a missing chunk of turbine disc that departed the nacelle. "The recovery of that turbine disc piece could be crucial to understanding the nature of the engine failure, and may have implications for the prevention of similar occurrences in the future," the ATSB said in a statement. At least two of the engines with errant oil are in Los Angeles and have been removed from the aircraft for more detailed inspection.
