• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

I suspect there are some old (OK, former) A-6 Intruder bubbas here who remember the pilot's pre-flight procedure of pulling on the handles of the Vertical Display Indicator (VDI) CRT panel to make sure it was secure before launch. That procedure dates to the A-6's early days when an improperly secured VDI came loose on a cat shot and hit the pilot. Don't recall if the incident caused a crash, but getting smacked in the chest by a hefty TV set would definitely impair your ability to fly the plane. :eek:

Same thought when I saw it, but then again, maybe it was an irony job?
 
I was a plane captain in va37, found my plane, it was sent to AMARC in 87 and is still there.....amazing thing this internet.
 
I thought the landscape looked familiar in those clips, that's the airport at Souda Bay, Crete. Spent a day there many years ago waiting for a helo out to USS Saratoga. Very hilly taxiways, A-7's would periodically pop up and disappear only to reappear on take-off. :)

yup Souda AB, or Ioannis Daskalogiannis as it is on the Civvy side housed a few A-7's for a while, as did where i spent my Childhood, Larissa... saw the 'basking sharks' on an almost daily basis, along with 348 'Matia' RF-4's/F-4's... good times, and now the only time i see these old girls is when i pay a visit back 'home' in Greece, or at airshows, other aircraft well i see them on CAS in my job, wakes you up a bit :icon_lol:
