A Big Congrats to the OFF Team from the BDG

Hi Guys,

I work on the BOBII AI (and other applications) with the all volunteer BDG (Battle of Britain II WOV) team.

My copy of OFF3 arrived today and I loaded it up and started playing. I decided to purchase OFF3 to support the flight Sim community and the OFF3 team. I had a wonderful time as OFF3 is just super fun to play and looks great.

Took me a while to get use to the slower speeds and maneuvers of the WWI A/C but after about 1 hour I felt comfortable at the controls.

I just wanted to extend my "congrats" to the OFF Team from the BDG Team for a job well done. I hope the OFF Team meets all its expectations with respect to the OFF3 development. :ernae:
 
Hi Buddye, thanks that's a great gesture, both buying the DVD to support us and the post.


BTW BOBII AI is great too so excellent job on that! I bought it a while back (and WM too) and have had some good fun so have to reciprocate the well done's to the BGD team :)

Work loads mean only got to fly it a few times though :/. I grabbed the 2.09 but not had time to try it yet.

Buddye, I also installed OFF3 only today and was going to humbly join the accolades posted by much more articulate guys much earlier on these boards when I saw your post. It is like you are always around to help out, be it the great BoB2 or awesome OFF3. :)

So I fully concur and echo what Buddye said.

Thank you for the outstanding and wonderful historical game, OFF Team.

Hey Buddye and Polo,

Have OFF3,IL2 1946, and just ordered BOB2 !! Want to support Polo and you guys.
I love military history and would like to see how it felt to the pilots back then. OFF3 has the immersion feel down and heres hoping BOB2 will also.

I'm waiting on my copy of IL2 1946 as we speak. I've heard about IL2 for years, ever since my WWII Fighters days, just never pursued it. I figure, better late than never!

What exactly is Battle of Britain II, what do you need to play it and where can you get it?
 
Hi Bruce, IL2 is one of the best WWII fight sim's. It is very good sim and I fly it all the time to get ideas for BOBII.

Here is a post that I made at the OFF forum at SIMHQ that I really hope most of you guys agree with. My hope is that we can all become one flight sim community.

"I am also very disappointed to see the tone of some of these comments in our small (and growing smaller flight sim community).

I have ordered OFF (and yes they priced it a bit too high, IMHO, and I have not flown it) but I ordered it to support the OFF team and flight Sims. I will also order ROF although the way they plan to priced it really does not appeal to me (based on what I have read).

We have so few really good Fight Sims today (and fewer on the way) and we "can enjoy" all of them on our hard disk.

I am only a BOBII AI coder and spend my time working on BOBII AI and other functions (for over 5 years) but I support all "real" (not arcade) Flight Sim's in our current very tough market.

Is my approach to flight sims so strange?

Do we just have to own one flight sim?

Do we want flight sim's development to continue?"

Buddye is a flightsim legend already for his work on AI in the past, current and future. :)

BoB2 and OFF3 have the best and the most immersive gameplay in history of flightsims.

Buddye I am glad to see you are enjoying OFF. BobII especialy since the latest update has been great. I feel that both sims do a great job of immersion It just depends weather I want to set the Time Machine to 1916 or 1940.

And Buddye is an incredible (and self-taught, if I might add :trophy:) C++ coder of extraordinary abilities! I encourage anyone who is a fan of flight sims of any genre to visit Buddye's A2A forum.

I am also an owner of both OFF3 and BoBII. In addition to being my two favorite flight sims, these sims are also the two most impressive and best supported flying sims that have ever been in existence. Coincidentally (or not), they are both largely remakes or mods of older, no longer supported titles by flight-sim enthusiasts/nuts! Another thing in common is they both have highly immersive and dynamic campaigns. I believe that Buddye is responsible for most, if not all, of the incredible AI coding in BoBII.

Buddye, if you ever get bored of coding BoBII (unlikely, I know), I would be ecstatic if you ever decided to give the OBD guys a hand. OBD, you would NOT be disappointed!

It is very encouraging to see such classy gestures happening. Buddye, you are a Gentleman in all sense of the word. I have BOBII WOV since v2.4 and have recently upgraded to v2.9. The plane models, the myriads of skins, great sounds and effects and the extraordinary AI are top notch. I think you still have to work on the terrain and autogen though, although the 2.9 version is a big improvement. Any thoughts of MP? (Apologies, no need to answer here, I'll ask over at your forum)

You are absolutely right, the flightsim genre is at a risk from the console arcade frenzy and the few good sims around should be supported by us enthusiasts and not be subjects of civil war.

Flightsims are games for grown ups.
 
Ive had BoBII WoV since release,with the patches this sim is in a league of its own when it comes to WWII,absolutely stunning,it ranks along with BHaH (IMO).

I want into the BOBII - WoV world. Some one tell me how to buy in. I tryed MAW and never got it to run successfully on my computer. IL-2-1942 was not exactly what I wanted either in a WW2 sim since I am not into MP. What I have seen on the BOBII forums intrigues me. BTW the enviornment looks alot like the OFF BHaH world from what I have seen so far. Please, someone tell me what I need to allow me install and run the latest v2.09 mod...
