A couple of DEI questions...

Hey guys,

For those who know, I have a couple of questions about the Dutch East Indies campaign. The original campaign rework had Bettys, Nates, Brewster 339 Buffaloes, Curtiss Hawk 75s, and the A6M2 Zero.

I would like to expand that list slightly to include the Nakajima Ki-43 Oscar, the Mitsubishi Ki-21 Sally, and the Mitsubishi G3M Nell. Would that be realistic?

I've also made sure to tone down and fix the horrible airbase layouts I did going on...two years ago now. Front lines and ship convoys have also been added. The last thing I made sure of was to eliminate American equipment, so I've been using Bofors AA guns, as well as Bedford trucks and the French Citroen car to make it look more realistic.

Is there anything else I'm missing here?

And...Merry Christmas to all of you. I'll be in-and-out the next couple of days with Christmas celebrations and church, so best wishes to all!

Not sure about the Oscar... let me check it out... I have a DEI Order of Battle around here.

The Hurricane is included, but I think there are also P-40s (the E-model) I think, in here as well.

Rami,

The initial invasion of the DEI was pretty much an IJ Navy affair if memory serves. That being the case, the Oscar or any other IJ Army planes would be out of context.

The Dutch B-10's were both the US Army version with separate pilot and gunner cockpits and the export version with the really looooooong greenhouse canopy. Richard Van Hien (Payakan) has done both versions and Paul Clawson (PutPut) has done the US Army version.

Ki-21 's were used to transport supplies escorted by Ki-43's.

Hurricanes were also flown in from the HMS Indomitable.

There was also 40 Bristol Blenheims and 35 Lockheed Hudsons.

In January a few B-17's operated in the area.

P-40's were sent to Java for defense with B-17's.

NOTE--
(1) After completion of the Lingayen Invasion, Destroyer Squadron 5 was detached from the Philippine Force and ordered to report to the Malaya Force for escort duty.
(2) After the Philippine Operations, the Philippine Force was redesignated as the East Indies Force which in turn was joined by the Malaya Force for the final thrust at Java.

Malaya-Burma Operations (Third Air Army)447 planes--fighters, bombers, reconnaissance planes

NOTE--Upon completion of the Philippine Operation, the Fifth Air Army was ordered to the Malaya Theater.

Ki-43 and Ki-44s are needed, as the Imperial Japanese Army flown them from Malaya to Sumatra, then used them against Java. Only issue is that Ki-43s should be the I model which, if I recall correctly, we do not have any until Akemi has finished to build the one he is working on.

In case you are interested on building historical missions for the period, I strongly recommend you to read, if you haven't yet, the two volumes of Bloody Shambles:

Best regards

I've recently bought a book dealing with markings worn by all combatants in the area during the period. If anyone wants to do some skins to go along with this update PM me!
