A Lockheed "Rounder"

Yes please!! I throw in my vote for both the Harpoon and the Lodestar. The Harpoon is looking good, Milton!

Thanks, the startup was made just a bit easier (I thought anyhow) by the Howard 500 shell. However, I ended up rebuilding the fuselage, empennage, wings and flaps. The engines are close and the gear is right on so that pushed me over the edge. :wiggle:

Deal! :mixedsmi:

I'm in (if you want me, that is...)!!!

For some oddball reason, I thought these ships all wore Wright R-1820's.
Not that I wouldn't do them again and again...and over again, AGAIN!!!).

Checking up, I see the Harp had R-2800's (arguably one of the finest air-cooled radials ever engineered) and the majority of Lodestars had Pratt & Whitney R-1690-25 or Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engines.

I'll put my money where my keyboard is, and do ALL engine variants if they are to be tackled in this interesting project.

So be prepared Sir, for a constant bombardment of Radial din that will make you wish you'd gone for the hang-glider.

It was on the options list, wasn't it? :)

I appreciate that Nigel. The Howard 500 sounds are a little brash so I look forward to a more rewarding sound set from you. :applause:

Oh Man! Lockheed Twins by the Milton Shupe SOH Team. What great news!

I hope it fills the need. My biggest concern for now is the panel and gauges.

Milton

Once there is an exterior model with base textures* I could,if demanded do the effects

Thanks

Roland

*effects tend to interfere with textures sometimes(load order)

I appreciate the offer Roland. :applause:

Don't know if this helps. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=2536

Also found this link some pics from a salvage yard.

I'll look for some more.

Thank you for the research efforts. The more we have, the better the end product. Research is always the most time consuming for me so when you all expend efforts on this, I can focus on teh modeling aspects. Great appreciated! :applause:

Milton, Check your email. I sent you a couple of color pics of a restored Lodestar panel.

The search is on for flight manuals for both the Lodestar and the Harpoon. Wish me luck and any help would be much appreciated. Free works very well if one can be located. I've got .pdf flight manuals for several aircraft, just not those two.

Milton, I have the Type Certificate Data Sheet in .pdf format for R-2800 engines if you need/want it. Not much help for the Lodestar, but the 'Poon used them.

Thanks Willy; that will be helpful for the flight model. :applause:

The Harpoon is one airplane I've been craving. Thank you Milton!! I've been following this one closely since it was stationed at our air tanker base in the 70s and early 80s.

Hope you can view it without registering. Some good shots of interior equipment being installed.

That's a fun thread. Taigh helped tremendously with our AT-11 project as he had many pictures of one he restored.

Thank you.

Jackpot on the Harpoon! I've got a 1945 Pilot's Handbook for it with tons of pics. I'll email it out shortly with the R-2800 TCDS. I know it's old business, but I've also got the Howard 500 TCDS as well. (I tend to collect this kind of stuff)

Still looking for Lodestar publications.

Nice Tail ...

I keep revisiting this htail et al because the 3-view is not accurate in many ways. But with enough pictures, I continue to improve on it.

Also got the engine nacelles, tail (attached to flaps), and engine face and props in place. The exhaust ring and flaps need to be changed from the current setup.

Gmail won't let me mail out the Pilot's Handbook as it's pretty hefty. I'll upload it here under my name.

Excellent Willy! That will be very helpful. :applause:

It was too big for Gmail, so I just uploaded it here to the Warbirds Library in FS 2004 Other under my name. I'll ask Rami to give it a quick approval.

Just emailed the R-2800 TCDS to you. It should come in handy for other projects that use that engine as well. It's supposed to cover all versions.

Back to the Lodestar hunt.

Not having much luck on a Lodestar flight manual, but I did find this drawing of the radio room of a L14 Super Electra of which the L18 Lodestar was a stretched version of.

Note the odd door shape. In "Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest Gann, he described these doors on the Lodestar. (In late 1941, he was ferrying Lodestars to Brazil and has a few good tales of that experience)

If it's of any help...

Milton

During my search for sound material, I'm going to be watching a fair few video's of some of these fine aircraft.

A few I've seen already, are HD walkaround video's, clearly displaying certain features and details from varying angles.

If they could be of some value to you for 'tricky' areas, I'll create a reference list.

Got it Willy; thanks :)

Don't know if this close-up of the tail of a Lodestar will help.

Got it saved with my oter stash; thanks. :)

Interesting to be sure; saved in my other stash. Thanks.

That would be helpful; thanks Nigel.

Now, back to it for me.

Thanks for all the research. It's starting to pile up. lol

Fowler Flaps

Here is a research question. What is the width and length of the flap?

Modeling and animating these fowler flaps are things I like to do.
This turned out really nice and the animation looks great.

It is hard to determine sizes of these things but we will do what we can with what we have.

Here are two sequences of the animation at 0 degrees, 15, 25, and 45.

See what you think.

Milton, the Harpoon props were a wide paddle blade type, here are a couple of pics to show the width of these props....
View attachment 54601 View attachment 54600

The props you've made are a work of art and they would suit the Lodestar.
The flap sequence looks great so far...the length and width looks about right, the flaps went length wise from the fuselage to the aileron I think but you would need to know from pictures and detailed drawings..

Thanks Mark. For now, the props are a temporary holder. I will get to the correct props eventually. :)

I do have the flaps modeled per the drawing. Width-wise I am not concerned (i have plenty of pictures) but the length (depth?) is a bit of guess work as they fit snuggly up in the wing in the drawing and in most pictures. Not a big issue but was curious.

Thanks
