A Lockheed "Rounder"

How do you get the tanks and rockets to show?? :salute:

Or is that from a yet to be released model?? :engel016:

Maybe I lost mine as I've been flying the paint off my WIP version.

Thanks for posting the video, TuFun. Very nicely done indeed, and the presence of the tanks is duly noted.

BTW what is your water texture?

I'm using the baseharpoonpk model.pk and this file miscparts_t.bmp in my configuration

Thanks... REX-O sparkle water effects.

Hi there,

Coming up in a few days a repaint feat. PV-2 Harpoon 4626 of the Portuguese Air Force in 1950s livery.

Cheers,
Maarten

Static Aircraft version?

Hi Milton,

Thank you (and the rest of your team) for this wonderful aircraft. I will be the first person to admit that I have no idea what is involved with the following suggestion, but (as I have already found several uses for a Static conversion of your WIP model) is there any chance of your (eventually) stripping out the VC and giving us a Harpoon model for static / AI use?

Time to say hello to SAMM...

Hi Milton,

Bill

Bill; you can easily convert the Harpoon and practically any other aircraft of your choice, yourself.

Just download the freeware converter; SAMM (Static Aircraft Mdl maker), by Don Grovestine.

For ai versions of the Harpoon - these will be made available, as will ai versions of the recently released Avia 57.

Edit: Maarten; nice work on the Portugese 'Poon'.

Bill, although Nigel has a good, easy method for converting these to AI models, that is semi-okay if you restrict the number of these in a setting.

These models are not built for AI static or active. Aside from them having 20-60 times more polys than an AI should have, they are not textured efficiently for AI and even multiplayer use. They have no LOD's so the hit on your scenery and system will be noticeable in many instances.

If you keep your traffic percentage low, you can have a few of these around but doing so is costly.

Building for static or active AI is a whole different process and approach. These would need to be done from scratch to be done properly.

EDIT: With that said, I will be happy to provide a somewhat lower poly model AI package with reduced polys, reduced texture sizes, and FM for AI. This will help tremendously but it is still not optimal.

The above is excellent advice concerning ai.
Using high poly ai aircraft soon has adverse effects on Sim performance.

I believe my suggestion has been misunderstood, my apologies for not making it clear - SAMM converts aircraft into Scenery object.bgl files for placement with scenery design tools. Not ai.

Lower Poly AI Model

Nigel: Thanks for your response, I am, if fact, using a SAMM (made from the WIP harpoon) at Valkenburg (EHVB) now. But, as Milton said, it pulls down frame rates - so an improvement was what I was looking for,

Milton: Your lower polymodel AI version is exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you very much for offering it. I accept!

Okay Bill, attached is a first cut.

Polys reduced by 25+%, textures reduced to near nothing in size relatively speaking but she still looks good in the sim, and unused textures eliminated, and she seems to work great here. I setup with 10 of my other aircraft as AI and had nearly nothing in terms of impact. This doesn't mean its great, just better than the stock unit.

Let me know how it turns out.

BTW, I changed the air file to be aircraft type 2. If you want to have it in the selection menu to fly, change that back to a zero.

EDIT: Also, you will need to add a sound folder and alias to a sound set that is much smaller than the Harpoon one.

Anyone is welcome to download and use this, no charge :)

New Harpoon AI Package

Bill,

No one has provided feedback regarding the first package so I am assuming it is okay.

I have updated the package to include two more models, one with guns and rockets, one with guns and tanks.

This is a complete AI package with 3 models of the same name. No sounds are provided.

*** I would appreciate some feedback to know that this works for you before I upload it to any sites. ***

Milton. You are referring to the AI package and NOT the WIP package, correct?? And the WIP package is still targeted for release next month sometime??

AI Model Results

Hi Milton,

Sorrry for the delay, I waited until I had an AI version of the RNLN Harpoon texture to mate to your model. Using your "AI" version (no guns, no tanks), I see a beautiful model - except there is no turret (just a black hole). Any ideas?

Bill
