A Lockheed "Rounder"

I am preparing a one model, one livery open beta for upload. Of course there are still a few things on the punch list like these transparency issues and VCRain.

But, as I get back into the coding, and because there are so many variants, I want to find and fix these issues with as few revisits to the code as I can.

I appreciate your efforts to help us get this ready for prime time. :wavey:

Will someone download and install this right quick in FS9 to ensure it works. I made some changes in the file after testing and want to ensure I did not mess it up. :)

IMO Stuart, this is a model issue as I see that as well with panels, overheads, and sunglasses, anything using transparency where there are multiple stacked objects with alpha channels and transparency.

It relates to transparency priorities in the model. Sometimes, you may also not see the gauges in spot view and sometimes only on some windows.

It's a pita to sort out but I will look at it.

IN FSX, it is less noticeable as the window glass is not perfect there for port overs especially with clouds and scenery that use alpha channels.

Thanks a lot Milton!
I was driving myself mad trying to figure this problem out...

Milton,

After I removed the "other" repaints and made navy181 the one and only fltsim it worked for me:
[fltsim.0]

title = US Navy Reserve TGHT
sim = harpoon
model = navy
panel =
sound =
texture = Navy181
panel_alias =
sound_alias =
kb_checklists =
kb_reference =
atc_id =
atc_id_color =
atc_parking_types =
atc_parking_code =
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
ui_manufacturer = Lockheed
ui_type = PV-2
ui_variation = US Navy Reserve tgh torpedoes
description = Lockheed Harpoon Navy by Nigel
visual_damage = 0

Thanks,

Jan

Confirm. This is what I did to get it to load as well.

Yes, I had set it up that way but made a last minute aircraft.cfg update from the FS9 version and forgot to pull out the excess fltsim sections. Sorry.

For those of you testing, this is the variation in teh PV-2's to look for:
ui_variation = US Navy Reserve tgh torpedoes

I will make the correction and re-upload.

EDIT: I have re-uploaded the file with a corrected aircraft.cfg.

Looks like a dream, flies like a dream, sounds like a dream. And fortunately still fits in the liveries of the very first edition. :)

Awesome!!!

Cheers,
Maarten

Thanks; I have tried very hard not to change the mapping so most liveries from the past year should be good. Older ones will require changes to the engines.

I realise I did the trick of copying texture.Navy181 twice and then just drop in them the exterior skins of the RNLN and FAP Harpoons. All went perfectly well. :)

Ah, great. When you get time, maybe you could post a few screen shots?

Milton, is the Gear/Flap indicator in the Harpoon, specific to that airplane or is it used in other aircraft as well? I ask because the actual positions for the flaps in the Harpoon don't match the settings marked on the gauge. A minor detail to be sure, I was just curious. By the way, she looks awesome in FSX.

Hi Ed,

First, the flaps gauge and the lever give position readouts in percentages, not degrees. (i.e. 3 positions, therefore 33%, 67%, and 100% of the stops)

Second, because the Harpoon uses Fowler flaps, we use multiple flaps entries in the aircraft cfg to better manage pitch, drag, and lift for each setting so that may be confusing what you are seeing.

The SOH PV-2 Harpoon (lite Beta V1.0) in the liveries of the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Portuguese Air Force. These liveries were made for the very first WIP edition of the SOH Harpoon a few years ago, but they are still very useful.
Edit: These two liveries are still available in SOH's warbird library: Royal Netherlands Navy pv-2_rnln_19-10.zip and Portuguese Air Force pv-2_fap_4626.zip

Cheers,
Maarten

I had to add some of the textures from the original PV-2 WIP but they seem fine on the light Beta.. Also, the 'g' model is the "gwip" model from the "HarpWIP' version, the armed version. Any textures you have for the "gwip" should fit this version fine. I had to add a few things to the texture folders I had for a RAF Coastal command version, but they seem to work very nicely on the light Beta also. Those textures aren't mine, can't remember where I got them either.

Too bad I can't launch those fish into the water and sink a few trawlers in the Southern Ocean... all I can do at this point is bounce empty drop tanks on the decks of those ships.

BTW, very nice work on the wheel well detail. Views under the plane are just as important as any other...

Is there any way to tone down the shine on the fuel tank switch panel in the cockpit?

Thanks Tom. The fuel selector switch panel and electrical/bomb panel are just a photo-real textures and the shine is embedded. May just have to eliminate them if they bother you ... or change the texture as you wish on the parts.bmp. Nigel swapped the electrical panel out for a box of cigars on some liveries. :)

It also may be I have specular assigned to that parts.bmp. I will try copying that and eliminating the specular shine for the two panels.

Also Tom, I just did as I suggested above. Removing the specular helped quite a bit.

Thanks for raising that issue. :)

I will remind you that any liveries older than last March may need to have eng0 and eng1 and wing bmp changes.

The engine maps were improved to allow the air intake to be textured separately from the cowling over top of them, and to accommodate better nacelle tail face textures.

The wing bmp changed to allow better texturing of the face of the rear nacelle part on the flaps.

Attaching these map templates for your information.

Thanks Milton, I was just going to adjust the marking on the gauge face to match where the animated flap indicator stops so they lined up correctly. . .but only if this gauge is used specific to the Harpoon.

Ed,

Each of our aircraft will have self-contained gauge folders so it is fine to change the gauge faces for all the Harpoon series in the ST_Harpoon folder.

The Lodestars use the same gauge but have their own gauge folder (ST_Lodestar) self-contained so these kinds of differences can be accommodated.

The Harpoon does need takeoff flaps due to weight and the marking should show that.
The Lodestar OTOH does not need takeoff flaps (except in rare short field instances) and the markings would be different.

So, please do change the face as necessary and share with us if you will.
