A Lockheed "Rounder"

I should mention, since it does not seem obvious, that the Harpoons, Lodestars and Vega Ventura are all completely different aircraft and models. Lots of similarities, but totally different in fuselage and wing shapes, interiors, cockpits, etc. Very little will transfer from one model to the other when it comes to aircraft.cfg dimensions, mapping for textures, etc.

Thanks for the numbers Milton,

I know the Lodestar is a WIP, just was not aware that the lights had not been touched yet.

I will work with the numbers for the tail lights, and post my results here if you would like them for when you get to the lights.

Again, thanks for all the hard work you and the team is putting in to these gems.

Btw, that tail wheel is in desperate need of some major TLC.

Got a little distracted from the Canadian repaints...

N54549 (L-18-40 c/n 2008) was used as Transocean's company hack for a number of years into the mid-50s. TALOA is my go-to airline when I am flying in CalClassic's Calirfornia scenery. My paint mojo is back!

Nice!! Great repaint congratulations! But, I'm permitted, is there not a logo of the company on the nose?

Best regards and great work again!

Just look at that fish... coming outta' the belly of that plane...

Wish I were a good enough modeler to be able to get my trusty ol' Harpoon to let go of hers. She's mighty proud of them you know.

It must have been a real thrill to fly these planes, low and slow over the ocean. Coming in close enough to a ship to let go of a torpedo and then veering off, hoping not to take a hit from a recoilless rifle round. On second thought... maybe it's not such a good idea to be picking fights with enemy destroyers... somewhere in the South Pacific. :biggrin-new:

The usual practice for the Venturas and Harpoons flying out of Attu and attacking the Japanese on the Kurile Islands was to carry 4 500lb bombs instead of torpedoes.

Not that I could see -- the only reference I could find is one b/w picture; colouration came from knowledge of other TALOA aircraft.

I just want to say thank you very much to all of you who have worked so hard and given so much of your time to bring the the PV-2 project to fruition and make it available to the flight sim community.
Magnificent work.
You guys and gal's rock! :applause::applause::applause:

The other day while browsing aviation videos on u-tube I came across two stunning in flight videos of a restored PV-2D owned and restored by a Museum in California.
The first shows the airplane in its completed paint scheme and the second shows it still in bare metal during ongoing restoration.
Both are beautifully filmed from an accompanying Twin Beech 18/C-45 and a third one of the restored airplane again shot from the CAF's C-60 Loadstar.
They all really show how graceful the PV-2 looks in the air as well as demonstrating some great formation skills on the part of the pilots.

Here are two further videos of the same airplane still in it's former fire bomber colors being prepared for its first flight since it was parked in 1994.

And finally a further two videos showing the airplane on its flight to California and eventual restoration.
Like Milton and all the crew here this team did a great job.

NAMBUS,

Taigh Ramey who owns that business was instrumental in providing pictures, drawings of the ECU, and general support for questions during our development and his restoration project. In fact, the PV-2D liveries we provided are of his bare metal and final painted scheme of 062.

Taigh was also extremely helpful with out AT11 project with pictures and drawings, and particularly of the turret details.

Yes, I have seen all the videos and pictures he has posted, of course. Just part of the massive data collection that supported the project.

Thanks for posting these for others who have not experienced them.

Aw crap. Found another reference and there it is. Just so happens I already have the Transocean wings, so I'll upload a fix. Thanks for the heads up!

Very nice job, Milton and Firekitten, probably the best freeware out there. Forgive a dumb question, but for the tanker version, do I have to download some sort of mod that enables fire bombing or something like that? Also, what key to release the slurry?

Thank you Sir.

I thought I had included a graphic for that but looks like I did not in the original release.

Depending on the sim, some differences exist. Since you did not specify, I include both here in attachments so you may Save the Images to your Aircraft/Docs folder.

Oops, forgot to. I run FSX. Say, are there any firefighting missions for this bird?

Well, after getting home at 11pm last night, I could not resist the urge to start working on the Lodestar tail lights.

So, this is how they look on the "real deal":
attachment.php

And this is what I was able to come up with:
attachment.php

Not too bad, I think.

And here are the numbers that I came up with:

[LIGHTS]
// types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
// 6=Taxi, 7=Recognition, 8=Wing, 9=Logo, 10=Cabin

light.1 =3, -34.540000, -0.200000, 3.093000, fx_navwhi //tail white nav
light.8 =3, -34.540000, -0.200000, 3.417000, fx_navred //tail red nav

If anyone wants to try these adjustments, be my guest. And of course are any improvements always welcome.

The beacon lights seem to be located correctly, and in a previous post (page 81, post #2019) I posted my nav lights on the wings

So far I am happy with the results, and I am having a load of fun flying both the Lodestar and the Harpoon.

Happy flying!

Lockheed Harpoon Project Officially Ended

... with uploads to Simviation and Flightsim last night. Now off my desk. :jump:

Thanks to all the contributors here who provided support along the way, and those who helped to get the Harpoon package out.

My focus turns now to the Lodestar series to complete and release, with your help of course.

Yea, the Lodestars! I'm looking forward to the AI version that I can create. Did you say you already created one though?

Tom,

I created a lighter version back in March but much has changed since then and it needs to be revisited.

And, it's not a true AI in that is is not light on polys and does not have LODs.

I will revisit when done but it will only be a lighter version, not a true AI.

I will also share the gmax source with anyone who wishes to take it in any direction they please for freeware.

My (very) modest contribution.... to this great Harpon project.

I noticed that some textures are missing

- S2CREW and BLACK (a BLACTEXTURE exist already and is used also), for every model, including tanker...

I think the others missing texture need only to be copied between the two texture (what I did...):
- A26_PILOT1 for Harpon Standard (exists in texture of model tanker)
- A26_PILOT2 for Harpon Tanker (exists in texture of model "standard")
- RadioTEXTURE for Harpon Tanker (exists in texture of model "standard")

Maybe, it has no impact...

Thanks for that beauty.

Gérard

Searched but couldn't find this being previously posted... if you want to see the "real thing"...

"FS9/FSX National Airlines Textures for Lockheed L-18 Lodestar by Milton Schupe.

Textures by Gary Harper"

Uploaded to Flightsim in the FSX section; works on the FS9 side as well.
