A MTO preview for Rami

Hi Andrew! :wavey:

What do you think of the below Spit F MkIX in SAAF colours, operating from Southern Italy for a late MTO theatre?

Is it Cryingtoto's model? Nope. It's YAS Spitfire MkIXc dressed in the same Cryingtoto's Spit MkIX historical livery, first fitted to YAS Spitfire LF MkVB by Morton and now adapted to YAS MkIXc by me. Cryingtoto's model is so old that it's not displayed correctly on my XP SP3 anymore, the landing gear remains in retracted position even when she rests on the ground.

Since late war RAF MTO repaints aren't too common, I decided to preserve this beautiful skin, as Morton wrote few years ago"one of the best Spitfire MTO repaints", placing it on YAS MkIXc. Thanks to Captain Kurt's MTO repaints of Rebuffat's Bf109G series, the interest for this "secondary" theatre seems to be growing.

Needless to say, she wears my very late 4-blade blurred prop disc repaint. If you think it's worth uploading it, I'll do it.

Besides, three shots of my rendition of Achim's Torino-Venaria Reale.

Cheers!

Kelti,

I love it! And yes, please upload it, my friend. However, I won't be back in the Med until early November, I think. Right now I'm off the North Cape of Norway. It always bothered me that neither Baldy nor UncleTgt truly received their due recognition for creating the Firefly, Barracuda, and the FAA Corsair skins for the attack on the Tirpitz. With this in mind, I have gone through and revamped all of the FAA missions involving the Tirpitz.

Both Tungsten missions, the Mascot mission, and all four Goodwood missions are represented, with you flying different aircraft in each. (Barracudas, Corsairs, Hellcats, Wildcats, Fireflies, and Seafires)

There's also a "top secret" mission scenario that nearly happened (it was in the planning stages for the RAF, and the FAA considered it after the Mascot failure) that involves everyone's favorite plywood friend flying off a carrier deck.

Roger that!

Busy bee as usual, huh?:running:

The British devolved a lot of attention and resources to put the Tirpitz out of business, understandably so. Your campaign will be a great historical addition to the ETO, as usual. :encouragement:

I completed YAS Spitfire MkIXc repaint details last night, I'll be uploading it shortly. I resized the fuselage serial codes to a more realistic, Morton-style dimension, centered the red-doped .303" gun ports and went after the very few untextured areas where Morton's repaint did not cover this different model from the original YAS Spitfire "clipped wings" LF MkVb Trop ("mk_spitfire_italy.zip") and YAS Spitfire F MkVb Trop ("mk_spitfire_malta.zip"). Remarkably such areas were very small and few.
The only thing that did not work was repainting the spinner, YAS Spitfire MkIXc model has no texture mapping for it. Or, at least, I could not find it in the usual file Merlin66 placed it in his other models.

Please, forgive me, but I do not want to bother sending permission to re-upload requests around. All of this stuff dates back to 2005 and yonder, as usual, I'll be very clear as to whom credits are due in the readme and upload pack filename.

I am taking advantage of this post to anticipate all credits due for the original work. As I stated many times, I am not a repainter, I just learned how to adapt some repaints to different planes.

  1. original 2001 skin by Cryingtoto for his Spitfire MkIX SAAF. This adaptation of mine represents the same aircraft, KJ-D BS553 South African Air Force, in order to preserve at least the skin, since Cryingtoto's 2001 model is not displayed correctly anymore on newer computers.
  2. 03-04-2005 first adaptation of Cryingtoto's skin to YAS Spitfire LF MkVb Trop and YAS Spitfire F MkVb Trop by Morton. Still available here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=50&id=1133 and here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=50&id=1134;
  3. Spitfire MkIXc RCAF model by Merlin66, of his YAS, RR Merlin-powered only, Spitfire series. I can't find it in SOH library, I could re-upload it for preservation if needs be.

Cheers!
