Hello, I'll try and keep this as brief as I can; bear with me as I am unfamiliar with this forum and the protocols & features therein.
After recently buying CFS3 for the purpose of buying Wings Over the Reich, and being unsatisfied with it, I found by chance an excellent vid on You Tube from a chap known here as 'Gecko' of a fully modded version of CFS3....and I was most impressed. It looked just about as good as the best modern sims.
I figured it could provide me with an opportunity to not let my purchase of the game go to waste. Therefore I'm trying to find various patches. Unfortunately, some of the crucial ones, posted here in the past are now merely dead links.
To save time, the 1st question is - does the game support multiple controllers?, (I use a T-Hotas X, CH quadrant, Saitek pedals, an ol' Sidewinder modified to be used as a trim wheel and head tracking). If not, then my enquiry can end here and thanks for your time.
If 'yes', then question 2 - Is patch 3.1a available anywhere, (I'm running Windows 7) and what other additions are available to make the best possible version of CFS3?
I'm not one to expect something for nothing and I'm more than willing to either purchase what I need, or make a reasonable donation to the forum
Many thanks

:wavey: I can't comment about the controllers, but you will find all the necessary patches and additions in the resource area for CFS3 Addons. Patch cfs3 3.1a can be found here:

Your CFS3 install cd may already have the patch included in the install. Later versions did.

The forum is made up of creators and flyers. Hopefully you are both a creator/modeler and love to fly the game.

cheers

Hello! Just out of interest, what was the reason for your dissatisfaction? In many ways WoTR is far in advance of CFS3, even in all it's present glory.

Cheers,
Clive

Hi, welcome!

Multiple controllers definitely work. I have four plus TrackIR and use them in CFS3 without trouble.

WOTR is not as mature a product as their WWI sim, WOFF, which has been around quite a bit longer and is still getting new additions. Given enough time, I think WOTR may one day rival it. But if you have any interest in WWI, I would still highly recommend WOFF.

Also the scenery from WOTR can be copied into CFS3 since you own it, and I consider it some of the best available. I think there is a post about this in the knowledge base sticky.

I appreciate the help.
My copy of the sim states that it's only suited to 32 bit systems, therefore this patch for me is essential. I'm afraid I'm not up to being a creator, but I'll certainly try to contribute in my own way. I also grabbed the skin pack, country and mission pack. Through various searches I did find something called 'CFS3 upgrade version 2', I believe it's an all in one patch. Would you happen to know anything about it?
Can you recommend anything else? I ask because in case you haven't seen it, here's the clip that 'Gecko' posted; the game looks pretty damned advanced to me.......

Hello Clive,
My issue with WoTR is the controller mapping. It will not allow certain functions to map to the sliders on CH quadrant. It will not allow the use of a trim wheel. I thoroughly read through the FAQ page, followed all their instructions including all the recommended app installations. My personal set up is the attached pic. As you can see, having most engine management functions mapped to the keyboard means letting go of the stick to operate them; not a good way to fly when there's a 109 on your tail!
I also noticed, that upon mapping certain functions to the CH buttons; which is possible, it somehow messed up my stick mapping! I couldn't control the a/c. The next time around, the stick was good again....then the next time it was messed up again! There may be an explanation I haven't discovered yet, but nevertheless.... by contrast, IL2 BAT... for all it's flaws, control mapping is a breeze! You can map any controller to just about any function....and it's a 20 year old game! One day, WoTR may get it right.....but not today!

You'll also need the v3.1 update:

Apply this one before installing the 3.1a Aircraft update.

We are mostly moved to a new server and there's some organising still to do to make downloads easier to find. The work is being done by volunteers from the members (salute!), so please bear with us while the job gets completed. Feel free to ask any more questions, we're a friendly, sociable lot, mostly!

Hello Dan and thank you for your assistance....
It was your inspired video and recommendation which has brought me here. For that I thank you.
I am pleased to hear that the game will support my controllers and I shall take your recommended scenery idea under advisement.
I've got the 3.1a patch now along with mission pack, skins pack, country and CFS3 upgrade V2.
Is there anything else you think I should have to get my own version of the game up around the way your own installation looks?

Hello there,
Thank you for your help in this matter. No need to apologize for the re-organization process of the forum.....I'm a patient man!
I have found some useful videos online as to the installation of these 32 bit to 64 bit upgrades, so I shall try to be self sufficient and not become a pain in the ass. It will also help my own education to work these things out. I'm not terribly proficient in these matters, but I'm not terrible either.

'CFS3 upgrade version 2' is basically the best 'stock' CFS3 install. I would not use the actual basic CFS3 at all if I was you. Then get the ETO install and BoB update install in! You will need the MultiCFS3.exe for all those.

Hello Mongoose, Thank you for your input. If I may ask for clarification on your suggestion - Are the 3.1 and 3.1a updates still required, or is the 'version 2 update' already a 64 bit?

sincerely,
Mr Boring

Well, normally one has the base CFS3 somewhere in the MS games folder with both updates, and then many install all other versions inc. the upgrade version, outside the MS program folder with the MultiCFS3.exe which ones runs first, Then run the CFS3.cfg exe and make the settings as high as your PC will allow, before starting with the cfs3.exe file. Once you are sorted there are ideas on maximizing the ConfigOverrides file in the AppData folder in for instance Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming. I think win7 is the same for that. Also the viewui file there can be tweaked.

I understand. Thanks again for your advice.

I would like to show my appreciation for the kind help I've received in just the last 24 hours. I thought a donation to the forum may help in some small way, but I'm not sure how to do it.
I've taken on all the advice so far, so I'll knuckle down with the plethora of downloads I've made throughout the day and see what I come up with. The only other thing that I'm unclear about is some of the downloads require something called 'firepower'. I've no idea what that is and any searches to try and find out have drawn blank. Any assistance would be helpful.

It looks like you are off to a pretty good start with key items. Beyond what you have found so far, the mods I listed in that video description would be my top recommendations, though I don't think those links are still good. They are available here, but I don't have time right now to find them. Ankor's shaders is the one that really takes the visuals to the next level. It will be receiving a big update which will completely overhaul the sky, hopefully in the not too distant future.

I'm sorry mate.....I'm trying real hard to not be a pain, but I've run into a snag with the installation of the V2 patch!
Query 1.- What to do with the 'apps data' folder. My understanding is, it must become a part of the pathway. To my thinking, this means putting the game folder inside that folder. But there's a folder in there already with the same name....containing 5 XML documents. I don't understand the instructions. What does one do at this point?

Query 2. Before attempting to install the V2 upgrade, I tested the game with patches 3.1 & 3.1a installed and it works, but it only works with the disc in the CD drive. Is this normal? I assumed that at some point these upgrades would negate the need for the disc. I found something online called a 'no CD patch'. Should I run this at some stage?

use that 'no CD patch'. V2 is not a patch, it's a separate install. Should be a readme,
Thank you, V2 is an install...I misused the word. Yes, there's a readme and it says:
'This folder combat flight simulator 3.0 goes into your application data pathway. Eg for my Win 10 install the pathway is "This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > Playtech > AppData Roaming > Microsoft >'
I don't know what it means.
