Hello, team.

Long time member, but no postee as yet (IIRC). So I'm back into CFS2 and wondering what interesting things you modifiers have done with the game.

I see many "tings" (DeNiro in Raging Bull) about 1% aircraft, and I don't know what that is... I have seen where a couple of enterprising souls have recreated a "mesh" or something wherein the scenery improves... and others have created European Theaters, better Pacific islands, etc. Not really sure how to get there, but any guidance is appreciated.

I HAVE downloaded a few aircraft and the RAAF Defence of Australia (and don't really care for it as the A/C doesn't show damage when hit, no parts breaking, the campaign is boring, ordnance stays on the A/C after dropping, etc.). I've also d/l'd the "skyafire" (too flamey for me! :isadizzy:) torpedo and ship wakes, ground on fire etc.

So can you aim me in any particular direction to begin? I'd like to play some of the more interesting European Theater campaigns...

Grreeknick,

I agree, the Skyafire is a bit over the top. An update to the RAAF campaign is on my ever-massive "to-do" list, and you can always update those P-40s to say...K. Malinowski's v5 P-40e's.

Anyway, you asked about Europe? I'm the resident madman. If you click on the link in my signature, it will take you to my site FILLED with stuff for Europe, the Eastern Front, and the Mediterranean.

I can send you the files from Sander to get you started.

The campaigns are not auto-installers, but I can certainly walk you through it if need be.

Since you asked about mesh, have you taken a look at my Europe install guide?

And, here's a link to a thread that will correct errors in two of the scenery downloads.

Just PM me with your e-mail when you're ready to receive Sander's files. :d

Let's let others handle the 1% aircraft and Pacific questions.

A lot of us were like you. I flew CFS2 for years but was too shy to get involved in the forums. Over the past couple of years I have been trying to develop my online personality. Unfortunately, even the "basement dwellers" here at the out-house find me an embarrassment. So, I have finally begun to pay them back by putting together language packs or "radio chatter" add-ons. I am currently working on Australian and French packs. If you can help out on any of these projects send me a personal message (open up user CP). If not, welcome to the out-house anyway. And, try not to pass judgment too quickly.

welcome aboard, I too have wet feet and dont know port from starboard much of the time but really appreciate the great help given here by all hands. Adding the great new additions is something one needs to learn about but once learned it realy improves the sim... and expands what can be enjoyed. Basically you can add many more locations, fields, and planes, but need to do so carefully so you can get everything that is needed, textures, models of objects, weapons and guages for planes, and you need to learn to add these new things to the cfg and file lists so the game will knw they are there. You can also customize the way the game looks, in the screens you navigate with the UIES stuff...it all makes for a much improved experience and as said, you are already getting some of the great help that makes this all possible. keep asking and you will get plenty of good direction and welcome :):icon29:

Tonight, my friend - I will "put Europe in it's place" (hopefully with a bunch of Luftwaffe pilots, <chuckle>) and get it crackin'.

Thanks for your contributions and the head's up.

I have a generalized question: Why didn't Microsoft build on CFS2, and instead put that miserable *&^#(*$& of a simulator they had the nerve to call "CFS3" up for sale as a viable product?

CFS3 is junk. I have bought and sold the program TWICE because I just couldn't believe it was so bad. CFS2 is much better - how come they didn't just use the code from CFS 2 to make a good CFS3?

Also: how do I make "SkyAFire" go away? Does anyone have either an updater, an alternative set of code, or the original file for me to use?

I didn't make a copy of my original before I changed it. I know, I know! :redf:

Grreeknick,

I'd back them up from the original files. If you have a .zip utility you can yank them off the install disk. (right-click and 'open,' rather than 'run.')

Let's not start a holy war bashing CFS3. CFS3, when properly 'tweaked' is actually a very solid game, it's just radically different from the FS and CFS 1/2 structures.

grreeknick,
again, like the others, welcome to the basement.

If you are familiar with the "REM" space to rename a folder, do that to your CFS2 install folder. Now make a new folder and name it something like ETO. Pop your CDs back in and install "Custom" to ETO and do NOT let it create desktop shortcuts. Once installed, go back and remove the REM from the original. Then, copy your EFFECTS folder from the ETO install and delete the effects in your original CFS2 install, and paste in the new ETO Effects folder. That will overwrite the firedown effects.

Now, you can find the C:\program files\microsoft games\ETO\combat flight simulator 2\CFS2.exe and create a shortcut with a new name like ETO and have two separate installs that both work.
