A question about scenery objects and AI aircraft.....

This may be a dumb question (isn't my first or last, am sure!), but can AI aircraft be used as static objects in FSX?

And if so, do they impact frame rates that much?

Thanks,

NC

Hi Chief, the answers are "yes and no" and "yes".

Yes, you can use them, but they really don't work well at all. What is a much better idea is to create an AI file that has your aircraft scooting off for a single touch and go in the middle of the night at some point, thus causing it to sit there all day basking in the sun/soaking in the rain and appearing very static indeed.

Regarding frame rates, it obviously depends on the complexity of the model and the number of them you want to use. One or two, you probably won't notice much difference. 48 Accu-Sim B-17Gs? I was actually slightly surprised that the frame rate was still positive (it was fluttering around 7fps on my system), but considering my lock is at 30, 7FPS really is a massive hit.

So, really, it depends what you want to do, but there are ways to make "user" aircraft appear to be static, yes.

Yes and Yes and Yes ...... you can use them for static objects .... just schedule them for a trip one day a week. They will affect the frames but if you have a dual or quad you should be OK.

Thanks for your replies!

I have an older system. And even though I am running dual processors, I don't know if it can handle the added FPS hit. I am considering upgrading my video card to one with more RAM. Maybe that would help.

NC ... The vid card would help and more ram. 4 gigs are are a help to smooth things out and 8 would be ideal.
