A request for scenery creation 😊

If there is a SOH member with scenery creation skills who would consider doing a small airfield in Alabama, I have a suggestion 😉!

Roy E. Ray airpark (5R7), is located near Bayou La Batre, AL. All the residents there have their own aircraft and hangars. The large percentage of them own Stearmans. My good friend, Lantz Pohlman, a retired PRCS (Senior Chief Parachute Rigger), is one of them. I have never been able to get Lantz interested in flight simulation, but he definitely appreciates the videos and screenshots I send him; most recently of Golden Age's wonderful Stearman. Anyway, just wishful thinking out loud. But if one of you is interested, please let me know? NC

Chief, I do sceneries, simple sceneries. I bet that airfield is in MSFS, but it's private and not listed. Paces Airfield in Ridgeway VA is there like always, and so is Buck Holler in Danville, VA, but neither are listed in MSFS. Since I have no expertise in doing airfields, I did the next best thig, I corrected all the buildings, excluded some trees and made them proper. The only thing is, I have no way of listing them for departure or arrival in MSFS, all I can do is show the coordinates. But I shall have a look, I bet the airfield is there.

Thanks Cazzie!

It's already in MSFS Chief and I doubt I could improve on the scenery provided, it's all there save the generic structures, which I have to rely on also. Just type in 5R7 in your Search Box in MSFS.

Thanks for checking Cazzie. I took a look at well. It looks ok, except for the two tall double hangars at the end? In reality, it is a long pole barn-type structure, open on one side and is only about 10' high. NC

Count those two hangers as being emended Chief, will do so later this evening. It's helpful to have two PCs, one to develop scenery and the other to see the actual scenery in Bing Earth. As noted, they will be generic, I only use what is available in the Sim. Keeps you fps low too. I know how to use Photogrammetry, buy it takes longer and it eats fps for those with lower GPU and CPU systems.

Chief, you're one of my favorites over here (not only because you're Navy, but that's a plus, LOL). But I am dedicating tomorrow to correcting all the structures at 5R7. I did not like the roof of the long hanger, should be A-roof tin. I did not like the houses, I can do better. The hanger at the end of the runway is too short in height. The structure at the end of the main buildings is a duplex. You're going to like what you get better than what's there.

Like Jankees loves liveries, I love MSFS as much for this simple scenery stuff as flying, it occupies my loneliness and keeps me from getting bored. Not to mention, the hours fly by instead of creeping.

Why Cazzie, I am so very appreciative of your comments and all the work you are doing to improve 5R7. I look forward to sharing some screenshots of the finished product with my shipmate Lantz. Speaking of which, I have a story to share about a prank we played on Lantz. At the time, we were stationed together at NAS Saufley Field in Pensacola as Advancement Exam writers. Lantz was commuting to Saufley from his home at 5R7. He did so until he retired three yrs later. Anyway, Lantz was trying to lose weight. Every day, after he left for home, one of the other Chiefs, named Judy, would snip off a tiny bit of Lantz's khaki uniform belt. This went on for a couple months, and Lantz would arrive each morning, don his uniform, and continually complain about his inability to lose weight, no matter how hard he tried, because his pants weren't getting any looser! Well, around Christmas time, a bunch of us (including Lantz) were in the Coffee Mess, having our morning coffee before starting work on exams for the day. In walked Judy, who had a small wrapped Xmas gift, and placed it in front of Lantz at the table. Lantz looked puzzled. He opened the box, which turned out to have all the pieces of Lantz's belt in it. The look on Lantz's face was priceless!!! We all had a good laugh afterwards. Sadly though, our friend Judy died about a year ago from cancer. That hit us all pretty hard. Many thanks again, Cazzie! NC

Getting there Chief, being interrupted like all us old folks by doctor appointments. Have one this morning at 9:30.

Cazzie, take ALL the time you need/want! I certainly am not in any hurry. Doctor's appointments are the "mainstay" of my existence, so I can definitely relate. Tomorrow I go see my Dermatologist to have a small cancerous area treated. Fun and games!! NC

Chief, tell me how it looks. Nothing can be done exact, have to use Asobo and MS objects and there are always updates with World Updates. One thing I just have to add for immersion, that plane parked across from the airport. I'll leave the structures as is, but I gotta add that plane. And in all my sceneries, whether correct or not, there's an American flag, thanking all vets for their service. Vets understand the meaning of that cloth, civvies just dote and pledge allegiance.
