A WBS Christmas Paint

Long-Time Enthusiast
Good day all!

On Christmas day, 1944 Lt. Col. Edward O. McComas received a fresh P-51D-5-NT, ser. 44-11280, in recognition of his outstanding fighting on 12/23 of '44. He had shot down 5 Japanese fighters in 1 day, in his F-6C (recon version of the P-51C). I don't believe he ever scored a kill in the D model, but none the less, it deserves a skin, so here go's. (working on this for the Warbirdsim "Little Friends II"

I'm just getting into it, lots of work left to do, but thought I'd post a few screens.

A few more...
I think I've got the fuselage textures about done...worked on the alphas and spec tonight.

Wing's up next... I know that there's "Black Lightening" markings on the upper wings, but I can't find any photos of the 23rd FG with the lightening under the wings... Does anyone know if McComas's D model had those markings underneath?? I'm pretty confident that there was not any under the horizontal stabs.

Thanks!
Joseph

Excellent work, Joseph! I have long been a fan of he 118th TRS markings. I'm glad to see that the alpha channels and specular maps seem to have come together without a hitch - it's always fun to see the final 'effect' of all of these elements in action.

John,
How would I find the NAA ser. no. for the data placards? I Know the 44-11280 for the army plate...??

John,
So that's how that works... I had been to that USAAF serial site before, but was getting confused... Not anymore, thanks a lot!
