A6M8 Zero Droptank Problem

bub

Charter Member
Hi All,
I'm endeavoring to create a A6M8 Zero and have reached an impass with the droptanks. I can only get one (the port side) to drop. The bombs work fine, so I'm a little perplexed as to why the tanks aren't working. I hope its something silly that I may have missed. Any and all help will be appreciated. Here's what I have:

My guess is that the airfile dosn't have "Fuel External 2 Tank". I saw this when I made my Model 22 Zero. I added this note to the airfile.

Note: "Drop Tank 1" will drain both wing tanks. No Japanese fuel selector will support 2 drop tanks. Data listed in "Fuel External 1 Tank" has data for both drop tanks. "Fuel External 2 Tank" is a "dummy" so both drop tanks can be dropped by the player.

Allen,
Thanks for the response. That seems to be the problem. My problem now is how to get that entry into the air file. I find no way the add it through AirEd. Am I missing somthing or just being "dumb"?

Open the Zero with AirEd and open a 2nd AirEd. With the 2nd open an aircraft that use 2 drop tanks like the F4F4 Wildcat than copy and paste the "Fuel External 2 Tank" from the F4F4 to the Zero. I put 0.00001 gal of fuel in the "Fuel External 2 Tank" so the game would know that it was Drop Tank.

Allen,
Had to do a little thinking, gave me a headache, but your fix worked like a charm. Again, thank you, I appreciate your help.

To get better results

Two points, you can fly with autoadjustment fuel system or use the F4F fuel gauge instead of the Zero one. Another point, you must go to the drop tanks entries to change the fuel tank capacity and positions. I suggest you the followings parameters:

Fuel tank number: 6 (for both, left and right entries)
Fuel tank lateral offset: -5.1000 (left) or 5.1000 (right)
Fuel tank up/down offset: -3.300 (for both, left and right entries)
Fuel tank forward/back offset: 0.000000 (for both, left and right entries)
Fuel tank capacities in gallons: 87.2000 (for both, left and right entries)

Nice flights!

Pepe

Thanks Pepe,
I used the parameters from Allen's dp file. Except I made the last tank#7. Does that make a difference? If so, I'll change it back and give your numbers a try. I'm always open to suggestion.
Thanks again,
Bob
