Looks like the sun was behind the aeroplanes. Not the best situation for photography. Either way, it's still a nice shot showing the difference of almost 70 years in technology.

Yep Jagd,
We were on the other side of the flightline so for the show, the sun was always in our eyes......
 
I played with the photo a little bit. This brings out the shadows a little bit. Perhaps someone more skilled than me can bring out the color a little better.

Spooky never came out much during the daytime, so I guess any shot in anything other than moonlight is good, eh?

One trick in such situations is to overexpose the camera either with the F stop or shutter speed. That will bring out the shaded side of your subject when the light is behind it.

Those Heritage Flights are always great. It's good that the Air Force supports them.

I saw several gun ships at night in III Corps. I never could actually see the plane, but the flares and the tracers were something to see. The more capable AC 130 Spectors were over in Laos and Cambodia, so I think they must have been either AC 47s or the AC 119 Stinger.
 
Actually, I didn't get any shots of that formation. Met some friends there about that time and the camera didn't get used for a little while.

I used the trick of setting the exposure on some green grass and leaving it fixed. It works very well for properly exposing the airplane when the sun is behind it. Of course, the sky gets washed out. It's not an exact science anyway and its what you are after as the photographer. You want details on the plane? You want pretty sky in the background? It's all about choices. Unfortunately, with action shots, you don't have much time to think about settings. That's why I was trying a bunch of stuff and wound up taking 1,100 photos. :isadizzy:
