Aces High Campaign - Copley's P-38s

Bee´n there, done that - no go

In the pages of the site there is indeed a line saying "for the limited P-38J CFS2, click here" but unfortunately the link is broken, so nothing happens exept you get a "page cannot be found". Maybe we could get permission to upload that version here at SOH?

Have no fear, gentlemen. This is on the list of missing files I sent to Douglas and Moparmike. If you'd like, I can send them a PM asking them to restore these files ASAP.

However, given the time frame of the campaign and Devildog's reputation for historical accuracy, I think he might be in fact referring to the "Triple Play" P-38 pack that is the archived American aircraft section.

If we cannot locate David's P-38s anywhere I will contact him and ask permission to upload them from my files.

Yes, those are the ones. I then used Morton's skins for them to make them Bong and McGuire specific.

Thanks, guys.

BTW, I also sent David Copley and email asking his permission to upload them with my next set of missions.
McGuire's first set are almost ready to go.

Yes, thank you kwb737! I didn't even know this site, now I registered and I downloaded the P-38 Triple Play package by David Copley. These are great P-38s, very pleasant to fly, and with a fantastic sound. I saw that Lawdog2360 released a "P38 Sound" package since then, including the sound files by D. Copley plus some additions by Lawdog. I will try this too.

Nor can you go wrong with David Copley's P-38s for CFS2. I flew every P-38 out there trying to find the right ones for Aces High. None even come close to David Copley's. His are the standard by which all other P-38s should be judged.

In the SOH Archive are also the 2 following P-38s by D. Copley (and... the links work!):

"P38J by D. Copley and pilot by Wolfi" ==> P38J.zip
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=15120

"P38M Lightning Radar Version" ==> P-38M_Night_Fighter.zip
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=15190

I noticed 3 points about them:

1. Some gauges miss in the P-38J (holes in the panel...), but you get them in the P-38M.

2. As for the pilot textures, if I install the 3073 Ko "US_Pilot_Body" bitmap which is in the P-38J, the pilot I get is not completely textured, i.e most of his body remains grey. If I install the 2049 Ko "US_Pilot_Body" bitmap which is in the P-38M, I get a fully textured pilot, with a blue suit. (Does anyone manage otherwise?)

3. The sound files - same in both add-ons - sound great and are numerous (77), but they happen to be the ones D. Copley created for his fictional XP-38N project, so they don't seem to be the most appropriate for a P-38J or a P-38M - or any other P-38 variant which actually existed.

And I forgot another point about this P-38M: Am I wrong, or all operational P-38Ms were plain black painted? This one is gray, with invasion stripes and blue-white-red spinners. And if you look at the P-38M model for FS2004 on David Copley's site, it is plain black : http://www.kazoku.org/xp-38n/model/index.htm

I have the gray P-38 with invasion stripes and Wolfi's pilot, I have the black P-38 M but don;t remember where I got it, it was not off this guy's site. As I understand it the black P-38 Ms arrived too late to be of any operational value in the Pacific or ETO.

Oops, in my message #17 above, I meant 3073 Kb and 2049 Kb. "Ko" is French... :d
