Active Sky 2012 Anyone?

Hi,
A few days ago I received notification ofthe forthcoming release of Active Sky 2012 from HiFi Simulations. As a big fanof their Active Sky Evaluation, I’m very interested in this product, but Ialready have both REX Overdrive and Flight Environment installed, so do Ireally need another Weather program?
Obviously not,but for some reason I’m tempted, mainly by the weather integration implied ontheir advert (and the offer of 40% off if you buy within the next few days).
I know mostpeople on here use REX, so is there room for another similar product in the Flight Sim world? I wouldn’teven consider this if I didn’t rate the Active Sky products so highly.

I'm not really interested. Active Sky Evolution works fine for me. It sounds like as far as the weather simulation goes, AS2012 isn't going to provide much of an advantage over ASE. I could be wrong, but their site doesn't make it sound like it has very many new non-texture features. I definitely don't need another texture addon.

ActiveSky programmes are fine, I´ve used them since FS2004 days. I purchased the FS2004 version now from the sales and after a series of tests, I must say that best results come from a combo AS+REX.

On the other hand I don´t like the company, which is asking money every time new version comes around. Fortunately their older version keep working properly even though they stopped the support.

Surely I'm looking forward to this! First because its weather is an improvement of the one in ASE. Besides that I really like to be able to install weather related textures. REX can also do this, but I'm not really fond of the REX weather engine. I've already uninstalled REX to make room for AS 2012. I hope the textures, especially sky and clouds will be to my liking. What I have seen in previews is that some have that same look REX textures have. To me that's not a good thing; I've always liked the softer FEX look.

Rex is if nothing else dramatic, but ive had it give me heavy clouds and rain over bend oregon, on days when i had to close the blinds to keep the sun from blinding me as it comes through the window.. I need to look closely at as2012 though.. I'm quite happy with ASE and rex running together, but if theres an improvement, I'll definately give it consideration..

To be honest, I’mnot 100% sure what Active Sky 2012 includes, that you don’t get with acombination of AS Evaluation and REX/FEX. I find the information on their sitea little ambiguous.
I think ASEvaluations weather engine is far more accurate and less buggy than the onesupplied with REX.
As I mentioned,I have both REX and FEX installed, and (I know it’s a generalization) I thinkthe REX textures are more spectaciler and the FEX ones more realistic, but that’sjust my opinion.

Ok, I gave in and bought it. I've just installed it, after a rather troublesome download. I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Ian.
