Ad-Aware question

Ad-Aaware is a useful tool for ridding your PC of spyware and such. They offered a freeware version for years as their business oriented payware versions supplied the income. However some months ago this Freeware switched to not-so Freeware with a catch. To continue getting support and updates I had to ante up for magazines or gift cards or travel vouchers, etc, all of which cost something plus I open myself up for solicitations, spam, or worse. I didn't like the way they mislead people so I abandoned the software. My queries to LavaSoft as to how they can still call this Freeware if I have to pay something to a third party went unanswered. I was wondering if there is another similarly effective software out there that is still truly free.

I just go ahead and buy the single computer version then you got a year of use without the hassle of being bugged about buying it.

aeromed202,

You might want to give another program a try... I too had Ad-Aware for a long time... then found this new program, malwarebytes.... It is a miracle worker... it gets rid of things that would ordinarily be quite difficult to get rid of.... so I would really consider giving it a try...

I was following the links to the free version all the way. I will add though that an IT coworker had to show me initially how to get the free one. The links were crafty. I'll follow up on the info you have given here. Thanks.

I've been using this one for quite a while now.
if you use the free version,
scheduling is manual, but I can handle that.
(he, he, real puny...unintended of course)
anyway, it is updated almost daily.
just be careful not to click on the upgrade link when you want to update
