Advice About NMEA Output

One of the devices I like to practice with when I am flying FSX is my 'Anywhere Map" which runs on an IPAQ (or other) PDA. For a period of time (while using Win XP) I was able to get FSX to output an NMEA stream via USB using a freeware program called 'XConn'.

In Vista and Win7, XConn seems to have stopped working. I have read that Peter Dowson's FSUIPC outputs a NMEA stream (newer version of GPSOUT), but that is not its primary function and the cost to get all those things I don't want makes it very expensive to get just GPSOUT. (It also cuts into my budget to acquire the great aircraft and scenery add ons many of you artists are now releasing (not, in anyway, to slight Peter Dowson).)

Does anyone have any suggestions other than to license FSUIPC? TIA.
