Are your L-39 repaints of the "Fortele Aeriene Romania"
will eventually be available at SOH Library ?

Q2.
Do you also plan a repaint for Romanian L-39 for the Cold War era
with the pre-independence "Red-Yellow-Blue" soviet type Star
or
"Fortele Aerienne ale Republicii Socialiste Romania" ?

For the Cold War Romanian L-39 I certainly have some reference
for you from my ( huge ) reference material library as a Plastic Kit
Modeller and Military Aviation Fan for the last ...... 40 years ( !!! ).

Nice to know there are real L-39s flying down under. Would be great to get a repaint of them.
 
But the first one has a regular soviet camo.! Don,t we have that already ? All you need it,s to add the numbers and registration using the kit and that,s about it..

I,ve changed the colors a bit to resemble more, put the markings on..here it is..If the posting times are correct between yours and mine it passed only 6 minutes.

I usually read rather than than post on SOH, but on this occassion feel compelled to write in thanks and appreciation...

This is a truly remarkable aeroplane, Mike. You should be very proud of what you've achieved. I really, really hope that the FS community whole-heartedly embrace this project, it really is massively deserving.

Every now and again someone comes along and takes a massive leap forwards. I'm certain that there are a number of technical advances and 'firsts' with the L-39 (lighting etc...), but for me it's the inherent 'feel' of the whole aeroplane that stands out. I suppose it's difficult to articulate feelings properly, and reeling off endless superlatives somehow doesn't do it justice. It is, for me, quite simply...special.

P.S. On a seperate matter; does anyone have any tips about setting up Track IR 4 Pro correctly for FSX? The default Flightsim profile doesn't really do it for me.

I can answer this. Since our pal Lotus has went to such extremes on the realism, it probably does what the real L-39 does. The real one has a small sub cell for inverted fuel. It only allows you inverted flight for 20 seconds at a time. Then the engine would starve. That is just the way the fuel system is designed in the real thing. I know the real plane works that way, am I correct about the sim Mike?
 
Mike, Fantastic looking aircraft, you've mastered the 'Looks Right, Flies Right' front, fantastic work you really deserve a break now :ernae: this one will be in the skies in sim for a long time to come, especially given my penchant for fictional display schemes (Yes thats one in my avatar, Black lower white swooping curve unmarked..... if you want it give me a shout, i'll even throw on some personal markings for you). anyways back to track, not tried inverted flight for long durations, have successfully got her to 'crazy plane' and other manouvers, she's really something special, again well done and have a beer on behalf of all of us :ernae::medals:
 
I have been under the weather for a few days but I am thinking that from all the exited posts in this thread that it's finaly available...? Where and how much?

Got it yesterday and absolutely love it.Been wanting an L39 for years and for one to come along so well done is just incredible.My hat,with TrackIR attached,is off to you sir. :ernae:

Bret, I'll ask Joe as soon as I can on this. It's something I'm not familiar with. If I see our "Shunk Works East" leader first I"ll ask him.

And too bad our "Shunk Works East" decal wasn't added to "Pip's" foreward windscreen. I spent a lot of money for those. ;)
 
Hi guys, thanks for all the praise again, I really appreciate it. It's hard to tell you what it means to me after such a monumental effort, and for so long!

To clarify on the 20 second inverted flight thing. The L-39 cannot maintain negative G flight for more than 20 seconds (at full power) because it draws its fuel from a small tank located under the main centre tank, which is gravity fed. When G goes negative a valve closes, trapping the fuel in that small tank. When it runs out... down goes the engine. :) I believe the tank size is approx 1.5 litres.

This information is in the real L-39 operating manual and was confirmed for me a few months ago by Chuck Kerber, one of the L-39 pilots who helped me considerably with technical reference. Obviously in the real jet this is a system you don't really want to test! :)

JimJam, the jet loads ready to go, minus a few items on, such as oxygen supply, GPS, lights etc. You can set up a cold and dark start though by saving a flight with everything shut down and the fuel cutoff valve off. Then you have to follow the Saphir turbine engine startup procedure to get it going.
