Aeroplane Heaven Lancaster available!

Hey Bazzer... I am so glad you replied. I Love AH, and have for many many years. Anything I can do to constructively hint at improvement I will always do in the spirit of positively supporting your work. Since making that post earlier, I have purchased the product from JustFlight, and will be taking it aloft shortly...... Just need to unzip it and go flying!

No worries mate, I have seen some VERY tall astrodomes on Lancs and most at canopy height. Agreed we have ours a little low so will change. I have to say that I am happy with the screen rake, it certainly matches factory drawings I have for the B mk. 1.

Bazzar, do you have any info if a paintkit will be released for the Lancaster?
It all depends on what you call a paintkit. We are not giving out original Substance Painter files or original PSDs. So the best we can do is what most do which is a plain livery set with no markings.

That would be perfect! If AH offered us bare fuselage and wing layers, mixed with a few alternate layers of lines/rivets and perhaps a UV to help guide us, then that would be amazing. We'll fill in the rest. Nobody expects you guys to give up your masters Baz, that's silly talk! Your aircraft painter is to be commended for the excellent work and should retain ownership of their art. But what is asked for, is a light version, with a few guiding layers. Like the 'ol days.
I learned repainting from layered paintkits. That's the only method I know how. I gave many beautiful Aeroplane Heaven repaints completely away over the years - all of them created using "the paintkit". As long as AH are making warplanes, I want to continue liveries for your models. Repainting liveries gives me great satisfaction creating something that, honours my late dad and also honours my country's aviation history. I know each repaint (with it's own little personality) will be enjoyed by someone somewhere else in the world. I especially love the research part, the lessons I learn from each livery. The countless hours of theraputic time spent perfecting the right brush opacity, or finding the perfect shade of grey for PBR. Even meeting people and sharing information is a thrill. It's all very rewarding to me this repainting thing. I spend a lot of my life in GIMP creating for myself and others. It's important to me to leave something behind that will be enjoyed as long as there is internet, and flightsimming of course. It started for me in 2002 in a community and am happy to see that that aspect hasn't changed, there are still some great livery artists here. Repaints are a big part of the flightsimming experience, and it worries me when I hear that paintkits will not be available.
Cheers Baz!

I understand what you want mate but MSFS does not work like the old days. In each folder are three components to make up the texture. Albedo (which carries all the colour info, Comp (which carries all the info for roughness(shine or matt) densities etc. and Norm which is (in old speak) your bump map. All the work to create dirt, shadowing, bumps and of course the basic colour textures is done in Substance Painter (painted directly onto the 3D model and output to the three tiles you find in the texture folder. Input files into Substance can include individual textures like metalness, shine, ambient occlusion, thickness, curvature and more. They all differ depending on the output file. As I say we can include a basic livery with no markings but anything else means a lot of Substance work to output all the input files to PSD and then package them all up. Then it would be up to you to assemble it all. Perhaps following some advice from some of the guys around here who have already done repaints for the Lancaster might be a better option. Some, I know, decompile in other programmes and then do the work before recompiling.

I keep saying I'm going to have to get my son to show me Substance Painter one of these days. He's a livery artist too. :)

Do your best with the knowledge and tools you now have Doug. Your work is appreciated as it is. Looking forward to your version of VERA, and the others in the pipeline.

@bazzar - Sorry if this smacks of teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, and you're probably well aware of it anyway : - there are many pictures on the web of the Canadian-built Mk. X Lancaster at Duxford, which, because it was adjacent to an elevated walkway, often show the upper surface of the wing. Now, I don't know whether the Canadians used a different method of riveting from Avro in the UK, but it'll be what most people's eyes are familiar with. Here's an example:

I hope the above picture will be of assistance to AH. Again, apologies for any presumption. Very much enjoying your excellent Lancaster ! (y)

I just want to thank AH for bringing us a fantastic product. I only got into VR two months ago (after 37 years of using FS on flat screens!) and WOW, the Lanc cockpit in VR is simply stunning. Nice one mate!

Agreed! The quality of the model combined with the continuous updates that AH always releases and the fact that they always listen to the community makes them a top notch outfit.
