AH F3F GGrumman Barrel is out

I think somebody like you would really love the control and flexibility it gives. Basically, it allows us to paint directly onto the 3D model. So not just complex designs but all the placards (which can be typed as fonts by the way) rivets, lines and detail all paint directly onto the 3D mesh. You have infinite control over height depth for things like rivets, total gloss (roughness) control and so on. It also means we can map far more accurately and with more efficiency in the tiles. The drawback is that it can and does make repainting a journey if you do not have access to the 3D mesh. I'm afraid we map and texture to suit our modeling methods rather than re-painting for workflow reasons so we don't use planar mapping much anymore. I would seriously suggest you start to think about going this way if you are going to continue, your life would be soooooo much easier.:engel016:
There is a video out showing how to paint directly on the model using Blender.

I know, but I still have to learn two new software packages, and not the simplest either. It took me forever to begin to understand photoshop.... I'll get there, one day.
In the meantime, old school methods still give reasonable results I think:

Jan, wow, that paint is fantastic! Thanks for doing that one!

OrbX finally made it live and I spent some time flying around. Flight model is great and it's awesome how far the visuals have come since the first version! A few minor issues still remain but I reported those to AH.

I use Blender, its a very good tool for basic painting. Tweaks are necessary in a separate graphics program anyway, but at least it's a lot easier these days for repaints for MSFS. :wiggle:

How are the sounds for this bird? That's one thing that is critical to immersion but seems to get passed by often (not necessarily AH).

Thanks

The soundpack is WWise. We have done our best (so far) with the process. WWise is an evil monster to get to know fully. As we get more comfortable with it, upgrades will naturally come but so far we are happy with the results. The only thing we are planning for an upgrade with the F3F-2 is to deepen the pitch - some have been reporting it as being a little light.

Thanks Bazzar, that's good to hear. It's a little soon after the holiday spending spree but it's on my list.

No mate it's fine. I assumed that the Navy livery followed the others with light grey lower wings. You learn something every day.:encouragement::engel016:

DennyA, i figure this must be a carrier, right ? Could you tell me which one and where to get it please ?

Would you mind shooting a screenie of it and tell something about it ?

Thanks a lot!

Hey Javis, yes, this is part of a group of WW2 carriers near Hawaii. Superspud has a two-part set of carriers spread around the world, both modern and WW2 carriers. Due to limitations in MSFS at the moment, they don't move (and they have hidden islands under them to make them landable), but they look great. You can use the freeware version of Kinetic Assistant if you want to simulate arrestor wires, or there are now a few planes building that functionality in. (The upcoming Wildcat, for instance.)

Note that Volume 2 requires Volume 1 to work. You can see a bunch of screens at the links!

Hey Jan,

Great work as always!

The VMF-2 skin is actually from my old squadron, VMA-211.

If a cross post is allowed, I recently wrote up a bit of their history…

https://forums.mudspike.com/t/dcs-2-7-x-screenshots-2022/13470/21

The only thing you might change is that the lion on the tail appears to be jumping up, if I can see it correctly.

211 chose the “Plunging lion” as being a proper symbol of the spirit of the attack.

Now, if someone could do a good VMFA-211 skin for the F-35B, you’d have the two bookends of the squadron’s aircraft

Thanks very much, Denny, that's absolutely fantastic ! :encouragement:

Pity they don't move but one step at a time, éh? I'm sure that'll come before we can say Bolter! This static carrier collection already is an amazing gift. Thanks a lot, Superspud ! Wow!! :applause:

Did have the Kinetic Assistant payware version already with the Discus sailplane. Both quite amazing too!

Now let's see.... what plane to use to learn deck landings..... Do not have the Corsair yet but just got the F3F. F-14 too but i think i leave that for later, i'm sure that'll come down to one Bolter after the other or worse... :topsy_turvy:

Thanks again, Denny, gonna be fun as long as MSFS behaves ! ;)
