AH Hawker Hurricane MK1 Released 5/2

I think 4 at a time is relatively routine now, and 5 and 6 flying together has happened. We could have had 6 the year I went, except BBMF was committed to RIAT that weekend so they only brought a Spit XIX. Anyway, it has been too many years since I have visited the UK and looked around for warbirds. Not that the US warbird scene is anything to complain about, I wouldn't trade the variety of planes available to see here for anywhere, but the British types are just so sexy. We might see a couple of multi Mosquito formations in the US this year; it is really a shame that the Brits don't have any of the new Mossies yet.

What a great picture! Flying Legends heyday was in the mid-90s, really. A wealth of American types displaying together - a four-ship Corsair formation, two B-17s in a tail chase, P38, P39, P47, P-63, a Pearl Harbor veteran P-40, Alexander Vraciu's actual F6F ( the fuselage anyway ), along with his flying gloves, two Avengers, three Skyraiders, Wildcat, Tigercat, Bearcat, two Catalinas, three B-25s - and the Spitfires and Hurricanes on top, all at the same display. We did have a Mosquito, but it was lost at Barton the weekend after Hoof Proudfoot died at Duxford. I saw Hoof go in - it was bloody awful. These days the warbird scene in the UK is somewhat diminished, but remarkably we have two Wildcats flying here, the lovely Blenheim, the ever-increasing numbers of Spitfires and Hurricanes, and the prospect of a second UK-based airworthy Lancaster . Plus the P-47D came back to us!

I saw the footage of both incidents; horrifying. But on to happier things. From here, things look pretty encouraging over in the UK. The divorce between Flying Legends and Duxford doesn't seem to have gone too badly, with Sywell gaining traction and still some good fly days at DX. The restos of Spit Mk.Is, Hurri Mk.Is, and Hawker bipes are nothing short of electrifying. I understand that there are several Seafire XV and XVII projects in the works, very exciting; I love the looks of those short nose Griffons. Tempest(s), the new Lanc, it just all seems very cool. I'm jealous that you guys sucked up all of Connie's Buchons. Some time in the next few years I'm going to spend a summer month there and try to see it all.

Unfortunately airshows lost some appeal in the UK after the Shoreham Hunter crash. Not to me though I live under the circuit of RAF Coningsby. At least two of those Hawker biplanes are for sale with one going to Kermit Weeks.

A Spitfire from the BBMF at RAF Coningsby lost today, with the death of its pilot. Very sad.

As I've mentioned before, there are some issues with the proportions and design of items in the cockpit of the Aeroplane Heaven Hurricane. Most noticeably to me, the first time I loaded the airplane into the sim, is how overly-large the spade grip is, making the rest of the cockpit look smaller than it should. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other things that are severely out of proportion too. The upper instrument panel coaming/shroud is also easily noticeable to of a completely different design in the AH Hurricane than I have seen in any cockpit of the real thing. For instance, the real aircraft has a bar that wraps around the top of the instrument panel from one side of the fuselage to the other, for which the coaming attaches.

Here are some comparisons with photos of the real thing and the AH model. I've tried hard to put both the camera and the controls in the same locations as in the corresponding photos.

The spade grip is the only one that really bothers me whilst flying, and should be relatively easy for them to fix...
Reworking the cockpit structure would be a lot of work and I can't see them doing it now - but if they did then the RH cockpit side-rail is severely misaligned with the canopy rail (see pic 4).
Also obvious in VR is that the throttle, mixture and prop-rpm levers foul during parts of their travel.
And the RH wing collar (joining the wing to the fuselage wig-stub) is MUCH thicker than on the LH side...

But STILL I like it :)

Are the textures fixed yet - the shine to matt change, etc ? Any other outstanding problems that people are aware of ?

Looks much better to me.

Some textures are still dodgy, the RF-R one for instance, with wrong-sized serials and missing comp files.
Rear-view mirror is wrongly fitted - even if it worked you cant see it.
Cockpit side-rails mis-placed.
For AH it's pretty good...

Keith and Allen, thank you. I'll keep an eye on it -I'm keen on having a Hurricane in MSFS, and if this is the only one we're going to get, I might bite the bullet.

Just a zoom in of shotgunshack pic.
But that's actually a Jankees livery...so it will only reflect the textures used when it was created...before any updates!
Looking at the files it seems Jan has used the wrong nose comp file (it's got a boot in it!)...replacing it with the one from the base GN-A livery improves things but there is still a clear demarcation between files.

I wish AH didn't use 4 files for the fuselage, it's a nightmare where details cross between files and you get these dodgy blends of the comp files.
Who want's 8K textures anyway (can't see that detail in VR, eats disk space)?, much rather have the whole fuselage in 1 texture file.

The recent v1.3.2 update has made further fixes to the textures. I think that the sheen mismatch has been corrected, although I haven't squinted as hard as some of you guys. Type A roundel proportions generally have been fixed. I could pick a nit or two, like the under-wing roundels on Sea Hurri 7-L should be type A rather than C, but this is very much improved. I think the flight model improvements are good as well. Whatever they did to the primer knob function now makes it usable in VR, although the mouse area for the primer lock is small and takes some patience to find. All in all, I'm ready to certify this now as a fully-baked, first-rate warbird and worthy successor to their Hurricanes for the past sim generations.

Since we have critiqued all these things here and AH probably still reads these threads, they deserve a shout-out for their responsiveness. Well done, guys.
