That nice Mr Ravenna of this parish asked me to build this WWI bomber and this is the results of my and UncleTgt's effort. This aircraft was a real turkey being rushed into production with an unreliable engine with practically no testing. It proved to be inferior to the DH 4 it was replacing. The RFC and then RAF soldiered on with it until something better ( the DH 9A ) came along.

The DH.9 was certainly under-powered but she was structurally strong and could take a bit of punishment, both at the hands of the enemy and from novice pilots. Several MCs and at least one VC were won by determined crews and a few rail junctions were accurately bombed by formations of this aircraft. She was built in numbers and widely deployed, and while not the most popular mount made a difference to the bombing offensive of 1917-1918.
