Aircraft Description File

When you choose your aircraft from the drop down menu in 'Free Flight', 'Quick Combat' or 'Single Missions', there is a description of the aircraft in the box below. Within what file in the aircraft folder is the information contained?

The reason I ask is that, for example, I really like Akemi's aircraft but, as I can't read a word of Japanese, the description is meaningless. I want to change the description to English. And in some other aircraft folders I want to add some information.

Hi Pips,

It can be appear in 2 places, in the aircraft.cfg and/or in the airfile itself.

Thanks for the reply leroy, appreciate it. :)

I've had a look in the aircraft.cgf file, no mention. The airfile I gather is usually labelled the Installer Package? And it's ok to open it with notepad and make changes? From looking at several it seems the information in front of "sim 1' is where the script?

Cheers

Hi Pips,

You won't be able to open the airfile with notepad you'll need AIRED or similar program to open it. You can download Aired from Avsim or the likes.

Oops!!! :isadizzy: I've already opened several air files using notepad. Didn't do anything other than look. Hope I haven't buggered anything up.

Not a problem at all buddy. Aired will also save a backup when you edit the file. It's been a while since I've used it so you may might have to set it to do so in the options.

If maths doesn't scare you too much you can start tinkering with the airfiles to make them more realistic. I went out and purchased AirWrench which really highlighted to me just how inaccurate many of the airfiles are. I'm a bit fussy when it comes that kind of thing so I really went overboard with my P-40E and it truly makes a huge difference when it all comes together.
