Turboprops have been difficult to model particularly the Allison engines in the C-130 and L188. I recently discovered the best FDE and panel for the L188 that I have seen. FML188AP.zip at FlightSim.com. Although it is an FS9 model, it ports fairly well to FSX and it is actually fun to fly!
You can actually use the turbine inlet temps to set power. So if you want to try one of the larger turboprop tubeliners, I recommend it. Sounds are very good and it handles well.

Nooo, sadly i didnt.. Thats in FS9.. Igor had at one point said he was going to update it to fsx but i havent seen anything more of it since then..

Where did you get that Lufthansa repaint? Is it for the FSX CS 707? I have only seen TWA and AA repaints - no European airlines ... would love to know if these are available.

What a great thread! Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'm just beginning to look into airliners - always loved them (grew up under JFK) but was convinced I couldn't handle large transport aircraft in FS, 'til the A2A B-17 began to convince me otherwise. This discussion adds up to a terrific shopping list. Am grateful. Just sayin'... :salute:

Any recommendations for tubes in the ERJ/CRJ families? I have the CS 727 and love it, would like to get something comparable in quality/systems modeling in a smaller package for those short hops.

Wilco/Feelthere has the Emb/ERJ Family. Im still waiting on the CRJ family, Wilco's CRJ's are hideous/ugly insultive when compared to the default FSX CRJ.
Don't know how I could of have overlooked David Maltby's Vickers VC-10.
This is my long-ranger of choice. Fast, elegant, decent short field performance with fully automatic landing function (yes, it works!). Four loud, smoky RR engines. What more could you ask for?

Yes it's the FSX CS 707. It's one of the default liveries.
There are 13 liveries with it by default, which are:
- Pan Am
- British Midland
- Olympic
- Qantas
- American Airlines
- TWA
- South African
- Lufthansa
- Air France
- British Airways
- Braniff
- Continental
- Equatoriana
Another "Medium" worth looking at is the FeelThere/Wilco Embraer Jets (not just the Embraer Regional Jets) range - I have the EJ170/190 pack, not the newer 175/195 pack, but they're still very nice little jets to fly. They fit between the Regional jets and the more common B737/A320 families, so can fly into and out of almost any commercial airport.
The only thing that will catch a lot of people out with the flight management systems on the Embraers (both EJs and ERJs) is that you have to complete the entire plan from runway to runway in order to get enroute info such as flight progress and descent points. This is less than useful if you don't know which runway you'll be landing on... Insert vicious scowl at the FSX default ATC here...

In my "Walter Mitty"Sim world Roger,I fancied myself as a Line Captain ,I found the "Captain Sim B 707" challenging....always looking for a First Officer,and flight crew with this....a hand full to command....then I think of "TEX JOHNSON"...who in a 707, did a double barrel roll..SOLO!...That really shattered my aspirations as a line pilot in a 707...So back to my old real life Cherokee PA 140B..and to continue Dream on!!...

Great post - thanks. I am considering buying this aircraft, but available liveries/repaints is always a factor. Sorry for the diversion - hope it helps Roger and others in their consideration of an older jet ....

Another older heavy - one I'm actually thing about too - is the CLS 747-200. It seems the '400s have been done to death by both payware and freeware alike - I find a special allure in the older version(s). I'm keen to know if someone has this, and how they like it. Again, not wanting to distract, but in the spirit of the thread's intent, may help others, including Roger.
