Airliner advice

Oh - and if you enjoy heavy metal hurtling through the air at very high rates of speed, you have Mr. Ruth's TU-144 (port, not full FSX) and the FSLABS Concorde SST types .... think of all the time you save crossing the Atlantic ... you can ... fly even more FS! :)

I haven't bought the Concorde from FSLABS - would love to hear some impressions - but just thought I'd add that one too.

I flew the 727 many times, mostly Lloyd Aero Boliviano to La Paz. The Captain Sim is for me the best tube around. I remember this job taking off from La Paz, at 14000 ft altitude, eating the whole tarmac which is also around 14,ooo ft and finally just jumping a bit and flying for many miles very low gaining speed and altitude very very slowly....the CS 727 does it exactly as the real thing. You pull to hard or too soon and you stall it.

With accu-sim this aircraft will keep you very busy as you will have to assume the role of the entire cabin crew by yourself!

Aerosoft is working on a CRJ that should be pretty good. After that they will work on their OV-10 which should be really great for exploring all those great Orbx sceneries

Going back to your first post in this thread, I am still not sure whether you are seeking personal advice (assuming that airliners are something you have never bothered with in the past) or whether you wanted to simply start an interesting thread, or maybe both!!!!

There have been lots of posts in this thread with some excellent suggestions from people more knowledgable than me about FSX tubeliners. However, just for the moment, I will assume that you might be seeking some personal suggestions. If so, then here are a few based on my own experience and thoughts. :)

I used airliners a lot in FS2002 and earlier, a fair bit in FS2004 and very little in FSX. My main reason for not using them in FSX is simply processing power - complex aircraft and detailed airport scenery with a lot of traffic slows down my pc to a level that I can't live with. However, based on my past experience, after trying most things, I found myself focusing most on a few aircraft that I liked and on airports that were interesting.

For example, one of my favourites was the CS727 - designed for FS2002, but usable in FS9. A beautiful looking aircraft with fairly complex systems and - most importantly for me - lots of character! My other favourite was the 747-200 (ready for pushback). I had flown on this aircraft many times to different parts of the world and having it allowed me to recreate my real life experiences. The 747 was almost too complex for me. I had the ability but never enough time to really learn all of the systems. I think that is a problem for many of us. We only have so much free time and like to enjoy different aircraft or generally just playing around with FS. I know that I spend far more time painting/reading/fixing etc than I ever spend flying! In fact, having gone through that loop, I doubt that I will ever buy some of the very complex aircraft available today. For example, I have seen some of the PMDG products - and I admire them greatly - but I know that I would not get value from them.

In terms of airports, one of my favourites was Kai Tak. A huge challenge to fly into, but great fun also! I also enjoyed any airport that involved a flight over the Alps - tremendous fun at dawn or dusk. In fact such longer flights - with some planning required - was one of the best aspects of airliners.

Anyway, a bit of a ramble, but hopefully of some use.

Actually a bit of both:engel016: I still haven't mastered the A2A 377 yet but I get the impression that in it's way it maybe more problematical than a modern jet...once you've got all the engines started, lol.
I believe that perhaps members and visitors don't expect us to talk airliners here which means a good proportion of the Fs community is excluded. I'm also not sure how my pc would fair with large, complex aircraft but wirth all the great suggestions coming in I will be trying most of them.

LOL! Well said! :applause:

I do wonder though if FSX will ever become the sim of choice for many airliner enthusiasts. FS9 still seems incredibly well established after all these years and even today a look at downloads (eg on avsim) and the many very active groups of enthusiasts suggests that FSX has made only limited inroads into the FS airliner enthusiast community.
 
Hi Roger,as this is an FSX Discussion, and having like most,using FSX,and FS9,and still do, there is a lot of gratification in flying airliners......most of which is on Auto Pilot,and for virtual hours....mostly its the window time which is enjoyable..Unless of course you do a complete Flight plan,.Thats Work!..so great scenery counts.....Like the old Cliche.Boredom,punctuated by sheer terror.landings!..often set up by we for the most challenging we can create..Masochistic I would think,Thank God for instant corrective Sim landings!!.Which means a Landing approach into Innsbruck in Winter...Staying in the Winter mode,a trip from Yellow Knife to Anchorage at night,under the Aura Borealishttp://www.ask.com/web?q=aura+borealis&qsrc=19&o=101881&l=dis&prt=&chn=&geo=&ver=,.IS POSSIBLE!...An experience on a Real Airline Simulator,shows just how our Primitive our Sims are,..however ,in my home ,coupled with imagination,and the Frig close by..My Stewardess near,.Why its Great.!!....This I remind my self glancing at my avatar..we have come a long way...Perhaps in those next generation of Sims,some can really experience these things!!
