Alaska Earthquake

aeromed202

SOH-CM-2014
According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at a depth of 35.5 km. Its epicenter was located 45 km (27 miles) SW of Amukta Island, Alaska; 85 km (52 miles) SW of Yunaska Island, Alaska; 1658 km (1030 miles) WSW of Anchorage, Alaska; and 2410 km (1497 miles) W of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada.

Okay, Japan then Alaska. Following the ring of fire, if I were in northern California I'd be looking to move soon. Don't know if tectonics work that way but it kind of makes me go hmm.

That last one was the second one since June

2011-06-24 03:09:39 (Mw 7.4) FOX ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN ISLANDS 52.0 -171.8 (ba01)

Neither of them generated tsunami's which is good but now I half expect there to be a volcano blow its cork. One seems to feed the other and there are a lot of volcano's in the Aleutians.

They say the next big one is not a question of If but when. Personally If I lived in
California I would seriously think about moving. The earthquake in Anchorage in 1964
was pretty bad. I couldn't Imagine one stronger than that. what did it measure on the
scale?

there really arent that many large faults in northern cal...well i concider san fransico central...but the san andreas goes out to sea at tamales bay,,i think the "big one" will happen from the bay area down...or out at sea if above SF

the link i have here shows the fault lines in california and nevada

Heh, heh. The Aleutians ARE volcano peaks. The scenery up there is beautiful, though. Went shrimping on the outside of the chain, based in Kodiak. During the (short) summer and early fall it's so nice up there. You shrimp in the many bays, not in open water. But you keep two ears on the radio and six eyes on the sky ALL the time. And there are very few days where you DON'T hear some sort of mayday-type comms on the radio.
