20 July 1944: The 332d Fighter Group escorted bombers to the Friedrichshafen area of Germany (332d Fighter Group mission report number 30). Four Tuskegee Airmen shot down four Me-109s. The victors included Capts Joseph D. Elsberry, Armour G. McDaniel, and Edward L. Toppins, and 1st Lt Langdon E. Johnson. Elsberry became the first Tuskegee Airmen to earn four aerial victory credits (Fifteenth Air Force General Orders 2202, 2284, and 2484, dated 31 Jul 1944, 3 Aug 1944, and 11 Aug 1944, respectively). Unfortunately, two of the escorted B-24s were shot down by enemy aircraft (Missing Air Crew Reports 6914 and 6919).
