All air files are now brown!

Something has attacked every AIR file in my computer (that's a lot). I just installed a zip drive and opened it in 'My computer" and all AC AIR files are in brown and won't open and show and error: Air file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file fron the application author. Any one have a clue as to what I've managed to have gotten myself into? I have been flying and don't seem to have a problem with any planes - yet. don

I understand, another program which also uses the ending *.AIR for its files has been installed.

The windows-entry for this ending has been changed to the new program to read them - which obviosly can`t do it.

The fact, that you can still use them in the game shows they are alright.

Solution
Right-click on an *.air file, choose attributes/characteristics? (?translation) and choose there the program you used before to open them.

DonP: It seems that Adobe (acrobat) has decided that .air files are some type of their files with their latest version of the reader.

Fear not......you should right click on one and see what is used to open it. Then change it to word pad off the computer pick list.

This will change all of them to open with wordpad......if you really want to see all of that programing stuff.

No harm, just fly and enjoy:ernae:

Cheers,

Hi Don,
Are these air files on the pc or were they on the zip drive?

If on the pc, try uninstalling the zip drive and see if that clears things.

Are you on XP or Vista?

The installation of the zip drive has possibly upset the file association with the .air file and Windows (which is strange!!??). Can you open the airfiles? And if so what is the default programme used by Windows? Should be Notepad (even though you can't actually read it with Notepad). If the airfile is associated to open with another prog change it to open with Notepad as default, this may repair the error.

I did just upload Adobe 9 I believe. I don't need to open Air files but the fact that all those files changed color has scared the --- out of me. Thanks for the heads up... don

Psullkeys has the right of it. Adobe Acrobat associated .AIR files to be linked to itself for some reason. Your air files are fine and your planes will work like always. When this first happened their was a huge thread on it over in the FS2004 forum.

Piggy backing on everybody else. The first time it happened to me it scraed the:bs:eek:ut of me, it took all day to figure out what happened. The second time I just let it go, it don't hurt nuttin', just a big annoyence.
( Yeh, I know the smiley doesn't work exactly, but I just have to use it when I can)

I removed the offending part of the Adobe download and now Air files are back to normal looking. Flying didn't seem to be affected but that brown file icon just 'plane' doesn't belong.... don

Donald, the simplest solution is to open you AirEd program and click the top toobar's SPECIAL button. Select 'Set Aired for AIR files' and that should fix all.

well, BC241, u r the man! This also makes it quite a bit easier to make changes than what I have been used to. Thanks much. don

To B.C. you are one of those pests that take the complex and makes it simple. You're a threat to our way of life as we know it. (LOL) :costumes:

It's simpler than that. Just dowload Air Edit. Click with rigth side of mouse on ANY airfile. Just select "Open With". Go to "Select Program". Look for Air Edit and you get the magic.

Cheers
