All sim objects on another hd?

I was wondering if it was possible to move all or some of the contents of the "sim objects" folder on to another drive?

to my best knowledge no you have to keep everything dealing with flight sim on the same drive

All I know is that texture back ups can go off the FSX drive..All but UTX anyways as far as I know...But they have to be installed like that, so the windows regestry tags them and knows where they are...

so you can link the whole simobjects
to another drive

You can move them where you like, but you'll need to edit the SimObjectPaths your fsx.cfg to point to the new location. Here's a snippet from my fsx.cfg. As you can see all the aircraft from MyTraffic are on the H drive (highlighted)

and Link magic does not slow anything down
i also link Gauges and effects
just to keep the c drive with more space
and actually my complete fs9
it helps with auto installs looking for the c drive
even if its not on the c drive its linked
so the installer cannot see the difference

I put most of my add-on aircraft on a separate drive. Saves space on my C drive and I have no issues what-so-ever. I keep the stock airplanes that come with FSX in the main program folder. I created a separate folder on my I drive called "hangar" and have sub-folders with different aircraft types (civilian, WWII, jet transport, twins, etc.). Just link to them in the fsx.cfg file and add a line to each aircraft in it's respective cfg file for user type.

multiple drives and/or in different directories.

The "Main" section of the fsxCFG file allows for the arbitrary
placement of SimObjects folders:

And the scenery.cfg file allows scenery elements to be placed
anywhere you wish since the path to the scenery folder is
defined there. When you 'activate' the scenery you tell
fsx where it is and that process places the correct path
in the scenery library.

I placed my primary FSX install on my I: Drive along with
some seperate "SimObject" folders.
I have the majority of my scenery located on my M: drive
in my Addon Scenery 2 folder. That drive is just as fast as
my I: drive and I've not seem any performance problems.
Plus, housekeeping is a whole lot simpler and I can create
different fsx_xxxx.CFG files that enable/disable the
individual "SimObjects" folders for different conditions
simply by making a copy of fsx.exe and renaming it to,
say, fsx_Military.exe. I now have a cfg file that I can
tailor to the aircraft in my "Military Aircraft" SimObjects
folder.

aircraft or anything not requiring continuous reads (scenery & textures) can be compressed (like airplanes, simobjects, gauges, ai_traffic, and sound).

Zip (Compress) Files and Folders vista

Right-click a file or folder with multiple files in it, point at Send To, then select Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Windows Vista will compress (zip) the file or folder and save the new zipped file in the same place as the original file.

same is with xp.

i do that but i got much capacity (tetrabytes, [1000] gigabytes), especially airplanes and sim objects, and gauges fsx and fs9

Why do you scatter your FSX folders over different drives in the first place?
Having everything FSX related on a dedicated drive or partition should do the trick as well.

I've got my whole FSX stuff on a seperate partition, which is big enough to accomodate about anything that is to come in terms of add-ons. I've also made my FSX "portable", to make it almost absolutely independent from the Windows installation.
