Allison Ranch Airstrip Scenery

Thanks, Dave! It looks great and works great with FSGenesis 38m freeware mesh. A fun and challenging strip. :applause: :applause:

Thanks Dave! I have a few addons in the area and this makes another great stopover. Works great with my FSGenesis 38m mesh, like Dognot said. Well done!

So far this has proved too difficult for my modest piloting skills. Looks to me like you have to start your turn onto final before even having the strip in site, otherwise it's too late. You also have to be only slightly above the strip altitude because you only have a couple of seconds to get the wheels on the ground. Obviously not for the pilot who is not extremely familiar with the approach. If I hadn't seen the video with the Kodiak, I woudn't have believed it was possible. It's cool, though, how much the approach view in FS9 looks like the video.

For those who like flying in Idaho, I've enhanced about 8 airports there, and McCall (where the flight to Allison Ranch departs from) is in Pete & Sid's volume 3. :wavey:

I finally got to try it out - I love it! And I agree with you Sid, I was thinking the same thing about the video! I have the Kodiak, and was just barely able to get it in, even though I actually landed a little right of center.:isadizzy: You need something that can stop extremely short. I tried out the new Puss Moth and couldn't even get that one stopped before I was climbing the hills on the far end! Sid, if you come in just a little high and stall just at the edge of the drop-off at a few feet off the ground, you can drop in at the slowest speed possible. Just watch out for gear damage!

Oh, and I'm sticking this one!!!

Well, I'm too dumb to give up so I kept at it. Removing a big stand of autogen trees blocking the path to the runway was a big help. :icon_lol: I also flattened out a lip on the rim of the ravine that was forcing me to come in too high. So far I've managed one or two decent landings in the Beaver (and lots of not so good ones). :ernae:

I've never used the FS9 "video" recorder much. Does anyone know if record a video of this approach and landing and send it to someone else, will they be able to run it even if they don't have the same plane I was flying when I recorded it?

A very well done strip! My initial approach was too high and I missed the strip completely. This should prove to be a demanding place to fly into.

You have me beat so far. I have only one successful landing and it was ugly.

As far as the default recorder is concered it will pop up a message that initilizaion of xyz aircraft has failed.

Then it will load what ever plane the person is in at the moment and play the clip.

So it seems you could email the clip to someone else and it would work.

Glad you all enjoy the scenery :guinness:

Well, I have been flying Miltons AC500 "OUT" of the strip. Not exactly easy but do-able. Tried landing it a few times and had various shades of "Crash". I am going to do it though!!!! Very close at this moment. The last 90 degree to the runway bleeds off too much altitude. Maybe if I just come in a little faster, or higher, or more flaps, or.....? :isadizzy:

What's worked for me is approaching the strip at an altitude of 2800', which on my setup is about 100' agl, and as slow as I can manage. In the Beaver I've got the flaps fully extended and maintaining about 60 kias, which is touchdown speed. As I make the turn I drop the final 100'. If I manage to land I celebrate by changing into some clean underwear. :icon_lol:

I have FSG freeware for the area, but not UT. The river is still in the right spot though thanks to the package. I also inserted a tower view above the strip on the side of the mountain, then deleted my Autower dat file. Now I've got this outstanding view of my crashes in replay mode!:isadizzy:

I managed to get the RealAir modified C172 down withoug bending anything one time out of three attempts. The other to ended up with me on the side of the hill! And the one time I made it, I had the left wingtip about two inches off the ground when the first wheel hit!:mixedsmi:

If you use fs-recorder rather then fs2004's recorder and the receiver of the files has same scenery mesh and aircraft they can play it back from any tower spot or cockpit veiw they like :applause:

As far as I know, the stock recording method will do that too. In essence, it's a portable instant replay.

Thats correct

The stock recorder does not have all the bells and whistles that FS Recorder does but it is not needed for this type of play back.

I down loaded it and watched it.

Far better than I have been able to expend time in doing.

Who made that Beaver Sidney?

The panel looks real nice.

Believe it or not I am going to release an update...

I found out I forgot to take out one Apron center line for parking spot number 2. Which really Peeves me off as I thought about it just before I released it.

It will change nothing else just get rid of the yellow line on the grass. :icon_lol:
