Alpha T-50 Bobcat....No Engines?

Today I am working between bouts of cleaning...tomorrow I will be painting between cooking chores. Thursday I will be too busy eating to do any painting. Friday..well, I will probably still be too busy eating to do any painting. Saturday and Sunday I will most likely be too sick to do any painting. The Blue/Black and White scheme will most likely be ready on Monday....might be able to get it done done today...have just a couple small things to do to it.

Here's a few screen shots of the Collings Foundation-like Bobcat. Found a couple places that I need to tweak on the fuselage, then on to the doors and interior work. I am saving the bambo looking LO LO for last...that is going to be a real joy to replicate. The pic of the woman may not make it onto this version of the plane.

And the tweaking continues...this time on the flight performance. Out of the box, the AS Bobcat had a top speed of 165 MPH....which is about the actual plane's cruise speed. So, into the config file I dive, a little tweak here, a little tweak there and here are the tested speeds:

ALT: 1200 ASL

Payload: 180 pound pilot and co-pilot, 120 gallons of fuel

MAX:

Settings: Full throttle, full prop RPM, full rich

168 Knots IAS, which is approximately 194 MPH...which is within a mile or two of real max airspeed specs for this plane.

CRUISE:

Settings: 20 pound manifold pressure, 1800 RPM prop speed, full rich

134 KIAS which is approximately 155 MPH....which is 5 to 20 miles less than what I have seen stated as cruise speed (Wikipedia lists cruise at 175 MPH, a Bobcat owner/flyer in a Youtube vid stated that his fully restored Bobcat, with a total of about 450 flight hours since the day it was made, has a cruise of 160 MPH). Fuel consumption at the listed settings and altitude is 10.1 gallons per hour...which would give a range of roughly 930 miles...which is about 180 miles too much...but I think we can live with that.

All in all, the plane's performance levels are close enough to real world that I am happy with them, and I think most people who use this tweaked/improved Bobcat will be as well.

The Collings Foundation based UC-78 is coming together quite nicely. It has only taken 5 attempts to get the dark blue upper and the insignia white lower areas to a point of satisfaction. Still need to spray the dark blue on the upper door areas...well, actually just need to tweak it to get it to line up with the dark blue on the fuselage. The interior is done...may recolor the seats though. Then comes the hard part....the LO LO lettering. I have a bamboo font I will try first, but if it doesn't look right I will have to do it by hand. I have no idea who the lady on the plane is....so you all will just have to live with a pic of my favorite early screen ladies....Mary Pickford...she's very easy on the eyes.

Once I have the tri-color job done, I will upload the tweak package for the Bobcat, which will include:

The Blue, White and Black paint of N69072

The Collings Foundation's Bamboo Bomber

The tweaked panel

The tweaked config

and possible a sound pack....I have two sound packs for the Jacobs R-755...I like parts of one and parts of the other...but neither pack as a whole. I have to dig around and see if I can find out who created them. Right now I am using a sound pack based on Mike Hambly's R-985 BA-GBR.zip package.....the external sounds at cruise setting are very close to the sound of a real life Bobcat I saw in a video doing a low flyover.

For now, I have to get back to work getting ready for tomorrow's Thanksgiving Dinner. Have to clean the bathroom, take a shower and begin cooking.

Go and cook, it's great to have a man in the kitchen. I am the chef at our place, and my wife likes it that way.

Latest pics of LO LO. Gonna give her one more looking over to make sure every thing is done.....then package up the two new paints, the new panel set up, the tweaked config file and get this stuff uploaded for the masses. Maybe later tonight or sometime tomorrow evening.

OOOPS...found something just looking at the pics...the info on the tail.

There is going to be a delay in the release of this project. I have decided to upload the entire plane in this package and set it up a bit differently than the stock Bobcat. Instead of manufacturer being Alpha, it will be Cessna (though I will include the Alphasim Read Me and give them full credit for the creation of the plane in my read me...not trying to deny the folks who made this neat little plane the credit and glory they deserve). Civilian paints will be listed at T-50 while military paints will be listed as UC-78/AT-17. The package will contain two model files....the stock one with the higher degree of shine for use on the civilian paints and a modified one with the specular shine rolled back to a gloss instead of a full on shine.....I have a thing about military aircraft being too shiny.

I plan on uploading the package with around 10 to 12 paints...all new. 5 or 6 military ones and 5 or 6 civilian ones. I just put the finishing touches on a third new skin...a nice OD over Neutral Gray, post September 43. Have a few more nice military skins I want to do...one is French...ooo la la.....and some more civie skins.

By uploading this as an updated package, that will not conflict with the stock package...it will totally eliminate any confusion over the modified panel set up.

Give me a week or so to get it all done....

Thanks OBIO :applause: :applause:

I'm one who'll be looking forward to it's release with your touch of class :jump: :jump:

It's amazing how cool a plane becomes when it has D-Day stripes. The humble little Bamboo Bomber was suddenly transformed into a war bird. I won't post a screen shot....you all will just have to wait LOL!

Hi Obio I look forward to your finished work and the repaints.
Anyways here's a few more pictures of the Collings Foundation T-50 / UC-78 Bobcat to help with the details on this repaint.

B24

Thanks for the additional pics...especially of the Daffy Duck thingie on the cowl.....that was the one detail I had no idea what it was. Now I can recreate the image and slap it onto the cowls.

I am incorporating DrZGard's 2D and VC panel mods into this restoration as it adds greatly to the feel of the plane...especially in the VC to have a full panel of working gauges. I have the good Dr's permission to incorporate his work, and the permission of Scott Thomas, the gauge and panel guru on Milton Shupe's team, to include the gauge cabs from the D18 and Spartan Executive. I have the mod incorporated into the new paints and will incorporate it into the stock paints as well. When I have a couple more civie skins done, I will get this mess all bundled up and uploaded.

Current count of new skins: Military 6, Civie 2.

And once I get this project uploaded, I will be doing a full conversion of the Bobcat to CFS2 so that these neat little planes can be enjoyed in that sim as well.

Looking good OBIO, take your time and be happy with the results. Any chance there will be a "Songbird" in the mix? Those old Sky King episodes were actually my whole reason for getting the Alphasim Bobcat in the first place... if you didn't know Falcon and I had to really work Alphasim to re-release the Bobcat as it was no longer available when we made our purchase and they hadn't planned on the free release either.

thanks Doc! the bobcat is a sweet trainer and a fun repaint candidate. Glad you and Falcon could talk Alpha dudes into releasing it.
