Alphasim / Virtav

Who can forget this stubby little terror? Can anyone land this thing without seriously bending it? I bounce this ship even before it hits the ground. As I get close to the runway, it balloons, drifts, ground effects, whatever, back skyward. Up and down we go until it runs out of airspeed and drops into the runway, usually with red and white airplane bits sprinkled about the airport.

Lol!
The most time i land it like you.
Just got it landed with only four hops,but this bumble-bee is really pure fun!

I had no idea they made a Gee Bee! I love that little thing. Have seen the San Siego Air/Space museum one.

Is it a freeware or still available?

Great shots PRB and RobH

While I was checking out my old Alphasim aircraft I notice how much I liked the sounds that came with them...

:wiggle:

Not sure where to get the old Alphasim planes now. The Viravia site only has three products for sale. I don't think the Gee Bee is freeware yet.

Love their Gee Bee! It is definitely an aircraft which requires great attention to properly land, and it is quite critical to get the speed slow enough through a lot of pre-planning (probably one of the most repeated errors by FS-users for any aircraft type, especially taildraggers, and this one demands it), and be well in-front of what the airplane is doing, as the very small elevators, at slow-speed, are terribly ineffective. In the air, it is amazingly maneuverable, just as the real design was proven. The other issue on landing, is visibility forward - several real-world landings I have seen on tape of the replica Gee Bee R-2, were performed with a slide-slip from base through final.

The Gee Bee is still one of the leading aircraft that Alphasim/Virtavia have for FSX, as I see it, with 3D gauges and excellent detail throughout, and it can be purchased here - I can't see it becoming 'freeware':

Ok, I landed it. If you can call it that. Scared the fire truck drivers half to death. It is a fun and challenging ship!

There are lots of AlphaSim/Virtavia aircraft and helos for sale at Flightsim.com and at the Flightsimstore.com

This might be a good place to ask again, has anyone besides me had trouble with the S-55 VC? The textures are not being applied to my panel. At first I thought it was an issue with SP2/Accel but everyone else still seems to be using it fine. I asked a few weeks ago in another thread but it was flooded off the first page and interest lost before I got it resolved :(

My readme says it is v2.2 for FSX and I seem to have all the files, I can even see the dash textures in the folders. Just not in game..

Yes mine are black too. Silly me thought it was supposed to be. Now that I have been educated I am unhappy.

To fix the S-55 VC missing texture file issue, place the attached bmp file in your panel folder. Make sure the VC section of your panel.cfg has the references to this file as shown:

//--------------------------------------------------------
[Vcockpit01]
file=$vpanel.bmp
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=1024,1024
visible=0
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$vpanel
